Are DVC Members ever upgraded during...

At other Disney resorts, we have been upgraded if the nicer room was available and no extra charge. Does that happen for DVC Members? If you book a studio but when you check in there is a one bedroom that is unoccupied, will they bump you up?

We are deciding on whether or not to buy and trying to consider every possible scenario from past trips.

Thanks!

It generally does not... they have a certain amount of inventory for each room type/category and we all book within those guidelines. The only reason you may get upgraded is for maintenance issues.

I have been upgraded only once. We booked a one bedroom at Hilton Head during the slow season. When we arrived they upgraded the 2 of us to a two bedroom. A surprise. :cool1:

We were just upgraded at AKV. We booked a Studio Value and got a Studio Savanna View. It was as the other person posted. The value room was "out for maintenance"

in many cases, timesharing is not like staying in a hotel. this is one of those cases.

timeshares like DVC will not upgrade you for free just because there is availability.

Thanks and that is what we figured, just wanted to be sure.

Appreciate the help.

Being upgraded at a DVC resort is not the norm. We have over 30 stays and have never been upgraded.

We paid cash for a studio for one night before a week's stay in a one bedroom on points and they upgraded our one cash night to a one bedroom so we didn't have to move. Short cash stays have a better chance of upgrades than points stays of any length.

It happens rarely and usually due to renovations or rooms out of service or in compensation for some inconvenience. I know of at least 2 or 3 times when members asked to be upgraded and were only later to find out the points were taken out of their account to cover the "upgrade". Timeshares in general are reluctant to establish a pattern of upgrades to members because they don't want people to buy a cheaper package and hope or expect the same upgrade in the future. OTOH, many timeshares will often upgrade non members hoping they will buy though that doesn't apply to DVC nearly as much as it might to other timeshares.

I got upgraded once when I paid cash rate for All-sports, and they put us up in OKW..... They ran out of rooms and it was very late check-in.

I'm at BWV and I booked a standard view studio, but I'm looking at the feature pool so this can't be standard - it has to be preferred. It's a handicapped unit, but I'm only here for a night before I move over to HGVC, so no big deal on one night in a handicapped since it's got a nice view. It's also been refurbished - new flat screen TV, paint, couch, and carpet. :goodvibes

We were upgraded once when we stayed at DL Hotel on points, out at DL. We had a regular room booked, and they gave us a 1BR suite, it was amazing!
