I just read in someone's TR that they thought the Dole Whips in MK are dairy free. Does anyone know this for sure? DH is lactose intolerant and he would LOVE a treat like that, if it was!

I know the knock off dole whip is not dairy free so I'm assuming the one at WDW isn't either but I could oh so be wrong LOL

I had no idea they were lactose free and low in fat and calories!!! This has been a WONDERFUL discovery to brighten up a Monday morning! :rotfl:

At the Ice Cream parlor on Main St. they serve Tofutti or Rice Dream..can't remember which one....they even do the whole separate spoon, freezer, server thing to make sure there is no cross-contamination. I'm lactose intolerant and eat things with the casienate (like veggie cheeses) and they don't bother me but I'm still afraid to try a Dole Whip! But I know how you feel about wanting to enjoy a treat like ice cream.....there is just something special about walking down Main St. at WDW licking an ice cream!!!!

I am lactose intolerant and can eat these without lactaid. As someone mentioned they are lactose free but have traces of dairy so if there is an all out dairy allergy I would say no but otherwise it is a great treat.

Thanks so much!! DH is so excited! He can't wait to go to WDW in December and try one!

Dole Whips are actually not ice cream, but are a non-dairy soft serve snack that comes in three flavors: pineapple, vanilla or chocolate. (Other flavors are available, but not at WDW.) The pineapple flavor is the one that most people rave about.

I have a confession. I'm the one visitor to the World who doesn't like Dole Whip at all, and after I looked up the ingredients list, I realized why they don't appeal to me:

INGREDIENTS: Sugar, Dextrose, Pineapple Crystals, Partially Hydrogenated Soybean Oil, Stabilizers (Cellulose, Locust Bean, Guar, Xanthan, Karaya Gum, Pectin), Sodium Silico Aluminate, Vegetable Fiber, Citric Acid, Artificial Flavor, Sodium Caseinate (A Milk Derivative), Mono & Diglycerides, Sodium Citrate, Salt, Dipotassium Phosphate, Articial Color Including F.D. & C. Yellow #6.

The dry mix comes in a big bag, which is poured into a soft serve machine with added water and then frozen. Sounds yummy? Not to me! I'd rather have a slice or two of the fresh pineapple the Aloha Isle stand in the Magic Kingdom also sells, but as you know, many, many people absolutely love Dole Whip. Different tastes are what make the World go 'round, right?

Now that my ugly Dole Whip loathing secret is out, what is my favorite snack at the World? I must tell you that I cannot eat sugar, so I eat snacks that generally don't contain it -- or at least not much of it. I like the soft pretzels and the fresh popcorn in the parks, especially. If I get wild and crazy and decide to eat sugar, I always make sure it's something completely worthwhile, so I guess my number one Do Not Miss Treat has to be the fresh beignets at the Sassagoula Floatworks food court at Port Orleans-French Quarter. I try to get them once during a trip if I'm able to. These poofy little things are irresistible.

I worked at AI a few times and yep, they're definitely dairy free. Also, every food stand in WDW will have binders of ingredients for every food they serve. Feel free to request that anywhere.

You can email WDW.MK.Special.Diets@disney.com and ask for a list of CS foods you can eat related to specific food allergies/sensitivities. We had lists of foods that were OK for my son to eat emailed to us prior to our last two trips - he doesn't eat gluten, casein or peanuts. They are very helpful. It's one of the reasons we keep going back. It's so nice to not have to worry about food allergies on vacation. I have usually dealt with Brenda Bennett (brenda.bennett@disney.com).

That's great to hear! My ds who is 4 is lactose intolerant. He has been drinking rice milk since he was 2 years old. I always feel bad when we go somewhere and all they have is ice cream. It's hard for him especially since his older sister can have dairy..Thanks for posting this info!

allears has the info wrong, per the brand website:

computer being floopy, I will post this then try to edit the proper info (with the ingredient that prevents my family from partaking in this "food", though I do not care because they tasted like pineapple flavored melted plastic to me).

Still cannot paste info in, grr. Well, go from the precision foods website linked above, go to product info for the pineapple flavor mix, and see the ingredients there. For us, the fact that it is almost all chemicals instead of real foods could possibly be overlooked as a special vacation treat, except for the corn syrup solids that turn my son into a spinning in circles, not capable of listening, violent "dragon", as he calls himself under the influence of that ingredient (also corn syrup and high fructose corn syrup). Sigh.

It isn't on the menu, you have to specifically ask for it. And, what they do when requested is treat it as if it were for someone with a true milk allergy...so they will go in back and put it in a cup for you..so if you want it in a cone you have to specifically ask that too (I'm only saying this cuz I REALLY, REALLY enjoy the treat of licking that cone as I stroll down Main Street!..wouldn't be the same if I had to spoon it from a cup!!),....they will remind you that doing so will potentially contaminate it with dairy products. Supposedly they serve it at AK but I've always asked and they look at me oddly. I was able to get the non-dairy 'ice cream' cone at the Scoops place in HS when I was there in Dec (never on past trips and I always ask), but the two girls I orig asked at the counter had no idea until a guy piped up from behind them telling them it was in the freezer!!! Does anyone know if they have any they serve in EPCOT?

So far for dairy free ice cream I have found:

AK-Restaurantosaurus
DHS-Hollywood Scoops
MK-Ice Cream Shop

I am going to make sure from now on that I ask twice and make them LOOK cuz I asked before at the AK restaurantaosaurus and they said, "no", too!! I think some employees know that it is in a 'special' place while others do not so making them go look is a good idea, eh?

Ds is going to be so happy that he can have ice cream and on a cone! :goodvibes

Thanks again!

Did you go over to the disAbillities Board? They have some information on Allergies and LI.

It is hard to get all the information on what is available where-I guess things are always changing.

The information I got was Restaurantosauras was the place to get non-dairy icecream.
