Are discounts ever available for BCV?

We have stayed over 20 times at Disney resorts. I usually am able to get Florida resident's discount or AP discount. We are going in Dec for a week and this time my inlaws are going with us. We decided to get a 2 bedroom at BCV. With taxes it is $606/night--GULP. Are discounts ever available? If not is there another place where I could get a 2 bedroom for less that would most likely offer a discount? I thought about just getting 2 separate rooms but I would need at least one of them to be a 1 bedroom. I don't sleep well and like to get up in the middle of the night. Hubby can't sleep with any sort of light or noise.

Thanks

Because WDW only owns a very small portion of the available rooms there (2-3%) even when there is a discount, they are gone very quickly.

Have you thought about renting points from an owner? Lots of advantages to that--it's usually much less expensive and you do'nt pay tax.

Why not look on the rent/trade board here on the DIS for more info.

Have a great trip!

Last July we got an AP discount on a Studio at the Villas (STD View) for $225.00 a night it was only a one night stay.

Thanks for the replies. Actually I have considered renting points. It would be $2400 (if $10/point) as compared to $3636 for the 6 nights. A couple of things bother me. I am worried about getting ripped off. For example, I pay my money and get there and NO RESERVATION. Also as I understand it I would get no maid service and other amenities. I know $1200 is a lot for those services but I at least like my towels changed out daily and my bathroom wiped down. Are there any amenities that come with being a DVC renter that wouldn't come with just renting from Disney? How do you ensure that the person you are renting from is honest?

Thanks

If you rent points, you do not get daily hosuekeeping. If you want to pay extra for it, I think it's about $40 a day for 2 bedroom. For just trash and towel service, it's $10 day. They will give you fresh towels and empty the trash. But there is a washer and dryer in the Villa so you can wash your own towels if you need to.

Otherwise, you get pretty much the same amenities as other resort guests. You still get early entry, access to Stormalong Bay, room service etc.

We are DVC members but haven't had a chance to use it yet. Our first trip home is in December. So I really can't help you with the renting points question, but it's really about trust on both sides. The DVC member could get ripped off just as easily as the renter. From what I understand, there are a lot more good experiences than bad. You just have to be really careful and reserach as much as you can. The DVC boards here are really helpful!

I agree with stimpy. There is trust involved on both sides. Do research on the boards on the person you are renting from beforehand. You can do a search on that screen name. i think the person you rent from should be willing to provide references. Unfortunately you yourself cannot, more trust on the side of the renter there. Most just require a deposit, then they will make the reservation when they receive your deposit. you should get confirmation shortly after that. I believe you can check directly with disney after it is changed to double check.

Ive rented twice from 2 different people and have 2 good experiences. The man Im dealing with now is a SAINT!!! The way he did it was; a deposit to hold the points till he reserved (I contacted him waaay in advance--12mo!) At 11mo he made the ressie/ I sent him half. When I recieved the hard copy of the confimation (the letter w/my name on it) he required the rest.
You can call and confirm your reservation if you feel the need.
He was very willing to work with me on the payments, as this was aroung christmas time. I cant tell you enough about him. I dont know whos more excited about our trip, him or us!!
Good luck!!

BCV is one of the smaller DVC resorts. Members with points at BCV had the 11 month advantage to make a reservation there in January. Other DVC members will get to make reservations there in May for December. You may have missed out on that 11 month edge already, but you may be able to still rent points if the reservation is available. You need to decide very soon.

When do you plan to go in December? Early Dec is very popular with DVC members, so villas get reserved early. Christmas is also very popular.

Having stayed in the BCV on DVC points I would really reccomend it. I didn't find it a hastle not having maid service every day. You are given lots of towels in the first place and there are towels you can get from the pool side for swimming etc. If you can rent points to stay there I would.

Ok with all of these great ideas, I am leaning towards renting points. One more question. With it being so far out and several of my family members in ill health I am concerned about the cancellation policy when you rent points. Is there one or once you confirm that is it? I know with going through Disney I can cancel within 5 days or only lose 1 nights rent.

thanks again

That depends on the person youre renting from and thier personal point situation. That is: they have a certain amount of time that they can bank their points, that are not used, before they loose some or all of them. There isnt a specific time period for cancellation, persay. I went into it under the assumption that cancellation is NOT an option because its a personal transaction between two people and that would be screwing the other person over (IMHO).
If that is a genuine concern for you then make sure you let the person your renting from know upfront so that they can give you a specific date to cancel by and their points can still be used or rented out again. Communication is key here. Good luck! And just so you know once you go DVC youre going to want to BUY BUY BUY!!! At least I do...:(

As a DVC member I would rent points from another member with the understanding that once I pay for the points they are mine...ifi have to cancel then its up to me to find a buyer for them. We lose points if we don;t bank by a certain date as well as have restrictions put on our ability to use those points for a future reservation if we cancel within 30 days. So when I sell its considered a final transaction at that point.
