Are daybeds a "girl" thing?

Trying to decide what type of furniture to get my ds. I found a nice daybed with a trundle but I had never thought to get a daybed for a boy. What do you think?

I've seen some that were pretty clean lined with no girly touches, and I thing that is totally appropriate. I've loved having one in our guest room - it is very convenient!

I agree. I've seen quite a few made from wood, instead of the usual brass, and made up with comforters that were definitely for boys and they looked really great. Makes it easy if they ever want to have friends over!

I have often wondered the same thing. I have a futon in my son's room, but have been wanting to get him a new bed, but can't decide what kind to get.

I have to agree with suzannen. I have seen a few made of wood that were very nice, and most of all not girlish!

We had a 15yr old nephew live with us and he had a day bed. He thought it was great. Gave him more room for his "stuff".

My DS has a bunk bed futon. It has a twin on top and a futon on the bottom that he can sit on and watch tv during the day or make into a bed at night if someone sleeps over. We upgraded to a better mattress and it is very comfortable.

Just another thought....we just bought DD a twin bed with a trundle from Pottery Barn. If you're worried about it being too girlish, they had some really nice twin beds that were very boyish that you could get a trundle for as well.

I don't think so if you find the right one - I agree with Minnie too, I have seen some great twin beds with trundles. My brother had one growing up actually.

This is what my teen son has - and he loves it!! We also upgraded to the best mattress and it is so comfortable.

What's nice about the bunk with the futon is they can take it with them when they move out. DS uses the futon to sleep on and the top bed for all his clothes. How much easier can it get than wake up and reach for your clothes over your head? ;)

OK, so question for all you futon people.... do you keep the futon made up as a bed all the time if your child sleeps on the futon? I don't know the first thing about futons, so if someone could enlighten me.... thanks!

I was wondering about the futon and bunk. DS is turning 13 and loves this. Is the mattress sturdy enough and does it provide enough support? DS is about 5' 8 and about 130 but is growing very quickly. I love the idea but want to make sure the mattress is supportive enough.

My DS has a day bed that isn't girlie. I HATE it! I can have my bed and my DD's bed both made before you can get the day bed made. Of course, the other 2 beds are open on both sides so it makes it easier. I just hate all the bending and stretching to help him make his. We got it for free from one of my DH's friends who didn't need it anymore.

Now, we're waiting for his new bedroom set to be delivered. He can't wait and I can't wait.

I don't know about futons, but my DD had a pretty daybed frame and used just her mattress. She complained alot about not feeling rested and muscle aches in her back. I realized the daybeds provide inadequate support especially for growing children, even a physical therapist told that.

Now since I bought her a boxspring and headboard, she sleeps soundly thru the night and hasn't complained about this again. She's 11, this was last year.

I would say that daybeds are NOT a girl thing.

We bought a daybed when my son was small, for a guest bedroom. It was a darker wood, with dark grain (sort of like a walnut or early american finish). Since it was for a guest bedroom/office, we found brown/green /tan manly looking daybed cover/pillow set

Since we have moved, we haven't used the daybed. My nephew is currenltly using the daybed. Incidentally, he is n't using the cover sheet set, since he is a little younger (he's only 3!)... but no its is a very masculine set

My DS sleeps on the top bunk and usually leaves the bottom bunk in a couch position so he can watch tv and play video games. They sell washable covers to cover the futon bunk

Lanshark - Both the beds are 6 feet long. I think that's standard, right?? The upgraded mattress is a must, imo.
