Are Crocs acceptable in the dining rooms at night?

I wore black maryjane ones to the "dress" night on the Wonder. I had no choice, I forgot my dressy shoes. I will tell you, not one person even gave me a look. I saw so many different things (including tennis shoes). The women in prom dresses (so tacky) got more of an eyebrow then my crocs.
To each it's own I guess.

My point, if that what works for you, then do it.

I am a little worried about your comment that prom dresses are "tacky." I bought a really pretty white with black brocade design floor length gown for formal night. It was technically in the "prom" section of the dept. store. Are people going to think I am "tacky?" :confused3

Not at all. You will see many in prom style dresses, and even fancier. You will see many in less fancy. It is all good :thumbsup2

I also did not know what the poster meant by prom dresses as being tacky. Our DD's got double duty out of their prom/homecoming dresses on formal night. They looked beautiful.

I always wear a full length gown on formal night. Not quite sure which type of dress the other poster was referring to but the dress you mention sounds just fine.:thumbsup2

Ya! How is PROM considered TACKY? :lmao: Isn't that formal?

I recently posted a question about formal and semi formal... and I got a great answering. It was that formal is what you would wear if you were IN a wedding, semi formal is what you would wear if you were GOING TO a wedding. Couldn't either of those be considered prom?

Unless we are talking 1983 prom or something...

Whew -- had me a little worried. The dress I ended up getting was a tad more formal than I originally had planned.... But my hubby said to go for it and he'd rent a Tux.... So I kind of feel like we are "reliving" our Prom. :lovestruc But can't wait!

I wonder if most people are thinking of the big original Beach and Cayman crocs as what you are talking about?

I wear my Mary Janes to Church, black and light blue. I also have new sandal type ones that are little more dressy. I don't see a problem with it. The Beach version, probably not a good idea, but Mary Janes... totally!

As far as prom dress type dresses, they are formal. My prom type/bridesmaid dress was good for Formal night on the Magic, but maybe not Dress Up night on the Wonder. To boot, I saw more formal attire on Semi-Formal night, than on Formal night, but I loved how I looked, so elegant! I would think that since they did not say "Formal" for the Wonder, that a formal type dress might be over the top. Would I say it is tacky? No. If you want to get all dressed up for a Dress Up night, go for it. Would I? Probably not, but I don't mind people dressing very nice at dinner.

The tacky ones are the ones dressed in COMPLETE Opposite of what is stated. I have the guidelines for the Magic dining nights:
Cruise casual: Shorts, tanktops, or swimwear not appropriate. (I see nothing about footwear)
Formal Attire:Tuxedo or suit for men, GOWN or dress for women
Pirate/Cruise Casual: Same as cruise cas.
Semi-Formal attire: Suite/jacket for men, dress or pantsuit for women

I do not have a Dress Up attire for the Wonder, but I would imagine it is similar to Semi-Formal attire. I have bought a nice cocktail type dress for the Dress up night on the Wonder in June. Might I have some looks. Probably, but I don't care. Its what I want to wear, its within the guidelines, and I will probably look better than some.

My prom too! And BTW... I teach in my mary jane crocs & wear them to church. Caymans I reserve for trips to DL. Athens are for everyday during the summer months! :thumbsup2

And, those prom dresses were lovely!!!! :cutie: But, would you wear them now on the ship??????

LOL! Well not the 1983 prom dresses, but a prom dress of this decade would be cool! :)

Yeah, If I could still fit into my prom dress from 1983 (a delightful little peach number with a hoop skirt!!:lmao: ), I would wear it on principle alone!;) :rotfl2:

btw, i didn't like how they fit (narrow; yet too long because they suggest you order a size up) & resold on ebay; crocs makes primas - look most like a "normal" shoe to me - few air holes; might be a good trade-off for those who cannot give them up...yet want to look dressier.

I've worn my Niles to dinner on the ship many times. It has more of a true sandle look than regular crocs. I'm comfortable and can still show off my pedicure. :)

In Disney terms, business casual is about the same as cruise casual because their definition of "business casual" is pretty much no cut-offs, tank tops, or torn clothing. That is a near direct quote from the many CMs at 407-WDW-DINE when I make a reservation at one of the "good" restaurants WDW like Jiko. Just ate there last night in a t-shirt and jeans and was not at all out of place...like the ship, you see the full spectrum there from business suits to full tourist regalia.

Although formal and semi might be a little iffy on the ship, I think crocs would be fine any other time and no one would throw you overboard even if you did wear them on a more formal night. Except at Palo and for formal, flipflops are my footwear of choice for dinner.

No no no :lmao:
sorry I was referring to the Wonder, which some people did look out of place in their 1983 Hot pink prom dresses.
The wonder did not have any formal type nights. Just dress up night. There were only 5 or 6 30ish year old women dressed like that and they did get looks.

I think a prom/homecoming/formal is very appropiate for formal/semi formal night. I think the rule of thumb is just make sure its classy or trendy. 1983 prom dresses are niether sorry.

OH, see....those are the type I was looking to get. I just went to Olympia Sports and bought the Mary Janes. I wasn't too crazy over the straps on them but these are perfect for what I was thinking. These are called primas? Maybe I'll try those instead. Are they THAT much more narrow than the Mary Janes?

I have totally fell in love with Crocs since last year and have not worn anything else since. Seriously. I have 4 pair of the beach in black, pearl, celery and light blue. I plan on wearing my pearl everyday (these are the ones I wear everyday now since they "go" with everything.

I just recently bought a pair of black Mary Jane Crocs for the cruise. I was hoping to wear these with my capris in the dining rooms. I am not one to dress up at all and totally do not "do" heels. So do you think these would be appropriate footwear? Will people look at me weird? And what about the pearl beach ones?

Are Crocs those rubber slipper like shoes?
