Are Conventions Filling Up the Resorts?

Are a lot of conventions that were scheduled for New Orleans being moved to the Orlando/WDW area due to the hurricane damage? Is that why the hotels seem to be filling up right now?

We're heading to WDW in March for a conference that was planned several years ago. I think the conference takes a majority of the rooms at BC and YC. We've attended the same conference at the Contemporary a few years ago. It does seem WDW has been getting more conference-friendly in the past few years.

I do wonder if WDW could arrange to host conferences on short notice. Anyone else have thought on this?

Not so sure about WDW, but if you are planning on traveling to Atlanta anytime soon, beware, they have doubled their conference/convention business in the past month due to relo's from NOLA. I was trying to book a room at the Atlanta Airport Hilton and there are just none to be had. I called the hotel direct and inquired if there were any large blocks and when they might be released, and was told that they ahd picked up several conferences during my stay that have them FULL!

I can't imagine that WDW didn't pick up some as well.

I think they have to be picking up a lot of business also.

I'll be in WDW during Jersey week 11/5 - 11/13. About a week or so ago I was checking every day on the WDW site for resort availability to get a feel for how crowded it was going to be that week. For a few days I kept checking Coronado Springs. There was availabilty in all their room types from standard to suites. I check back the next morning and it is totally booked

I thought I read somewhere on these boards that a big convention had to move from New Orleans to WDW during this time so maybe that had something to do with the resort being booked.

The Gartner Conference is a large IT conference in the middle of October. You will notice a difference in room availability at that time.

Not to mention all the renovations going on at the Contemporary they have to have convention quests stay at other resorts.

I'll be there at the end of October for an IBF conference at the Contemporary.

Ducklite, have you tried the Renaissance at the airport in Atlanta? Love sitting on the balcony there watching the planes. Restaurant is very nice also.
