I know we can't win the "Dream Ticket" but can we still audition and sing on stage? I tried to search on these boards, and only one Canadian came up (BTToronto?) that experienced it first hand. Anyone else?

Yes.

In general, any Guest over 14 years of age validly admitted to Disney's Hollywood Studios and not subject to any Block-Out Period established by Disney's Hollywood Studios and/or the Walt Disney World Resort may participate in the American Idol Experience Audition Experience, even if they do not meet the audition requirements of the American Idol television programme. Only the following groups of people may not participate at all:
  • Employees and their immediate family members of The Walt Disney Company; Walt Disney Parks and Resorts U.S., Inc, and any Affiliates, Subsidaries or Related Companies of the same.
  • Employees and their immediate family members of 19 TV Limited, FremantleMedia North America, Inc., Fox Broadcasting Company, Fox Interactive Media, Inc. and their Parent Companies, Affiliates, Subsidaries or Related Companies.
  • Employees of any commercial establishment located at the Walt Disney World Resort.
  • Any individual who provides Entertainment Services at the Walt Disney World Resort.

Guests who win a Dream Ticket but who are not eligible to attend an American Idol audition for whatever reason (including, but not limited to age and/or lack of U.S. Citizenship/Residency) may choose to retain the Dream Ticket to use at a later time when they do meet such requirements. In addition, they may choose to transfer it one time to an eligible participant.

The guy who won the show we saw in Sept was from Vancouver. He was awesome. Don't know if he won in the finale though.

You should be aware that it can turn into an all day thing. I can't remember the exact program but you go for the first prelim part and then if you happen to win you have to hang around for each additional round. It goes from morning to late afternoon.

You should easily find a few threads on the schedule of events and how long it takes.

Thanks everyone. I did check out the official Disney website, also did a search here but not too much came up concerning 'experiences'.

Does anyone know if you get anything for participating? If I'm going to use up most of the day for this, it would be nice if I had 'something' to show for it. ;)

Can anybody sit in the audience? Do you have to make reservations before hand? We have walked past it several time but the kids were younger and we didn't think they would be interested...now they may be and it could be fun to watch and experience something new.

Yes, I believe anyone can sit in the audience....its just like any other attraction, the CM's will be advertising the next show and asking everyone to come wait in line.....

Anyone can view from the audience. You have to just stand in line as the other posters mentioned. It is fun. My daughter wanted to go back to see the finale and find out who won. It was really fun to watch. I recommend it for sure.

When we were there in Febuary, a girl from Sudbury won! My daughter goes to university there, so we cheered on our fellow Canadian!!!

OT- a little- funny story about singing. Last night I was in the kitchen making dinner and I heard this horrific sound from the living room. I came running b/c I thought that my DH had hurt himself or something. Nope! It was just him singing to the dog! :lmao:

My MIL will probably want to do this - she is in her seventies and has placed in a Senior Idol competition. She is really quite good - when she was in her twenties she was offered a recording contract but chose to settle down with my FIL and come to Canada. I'm guessing from the description that they don't cap the age?

Oh!! Tell her to do it!!

Soooooo much fun - I just had my second American Idol Experience-experience:goodvibes

First time, Late February 2009.
Audutioned, got through.
Sang Shania Twain's "Man I Feel Like a Woman"
...and rocked it, if I do say myself:teeth:
Hah!!

...but sadly, did not go through to the Finale.
Many Canadians in the audience, though - so felt like I had my very own cheering section!!

Second time, just last week.

Sang "Hit Me With Your Best Shot", and totally rocked it!! :teeth:
Hah!!

Like I said at the start of my audition:
What I clearly lack in talent, I make up for with enthusiasm :thumbsup2

There are currently 5 shows per day.
Auditions start at park opening, and continue until early afternoon.
Apparently, 300-400 people audition per day.
3 contestants make it into each show.

The audition process is simple.
Present yourself to the American Idol Experience CMs, sign the waiver that you are not a WDW employee, or family member of one, and go line up.

Canadians are entirely eligible for the WDW experience, but not to win a ticket. So yes, you can win your show, go onto the Finale, win the finale, get the ticket, but then would have to transfer it to an eligible US citizen.

Entering the building, you are directed to one of a few initial audition rooms.
Sing your song for one of the producers.

From there, if given the go ahead, you proceed to the CocaCola Red Room, and start practicing 2 songs - on an Ipod with headphones - for the final stage of audition.

Then onto the next producers...they will tell you whether you're on ...or not.
Some taping of interviews, staged scenes around the park for your video clip if you wind up as Contestant #2 (which I was, both times), and after that, you then have "free time" until about an hour before your show.
Hair, make up, vocal coaching, dress rehearsal....

It's a wonderful day, a truly fantastic experience, and something that not everyone gets to do. The CMs are absolutely terrific, you're walked through everything, and they are so tremendously supportive.

It really, really is one of those "once in a lifetime" things!!
...which is why I *had* to go try again;);)

Anyone in the park can attend the shows, and/or the evening finale.

And for folks with little ones, it's a great time - air conditioning, lots of singing, get to press the voting buttons, dance and clap along!:cool1::cool1:

Have fun!!!!

:)

Sounds like you had a great time...if she wants to do it I will encourage her, then. Do you think I would need to or be allowed to stay with her? My FIL, DH and DS definitely would not want to. I had planned on she and I going to the show and would be willing to stick to it with her....maybe even consider giving it a shot myself. Is there a list of songs available ahead of time and are there any jazz standards? I'm sure she would find a pop song but she'd be more comfortable with something jazz or at least bluesy.

Each contestant gets to keep their Number One Fan with them through the audition process.
They can't stay with you during your hair/make up/vocals sessions.

So, when you return for your hour before show time, you register your VIPs (including your #1Fan) for their reserved seating.

They all need to be at the stage door 30 minutes before your show, and will be seated during the dress rehearsal run through.

The approved list of songs is available...just google it.

She can sing anything she wants for her initial audition - just no original compositions.
Then, she'll have to choose 2 songs from the list for the next audition.
Keep in mind that the songs could be choosen by earlier contestants, and therefore eiliminated for her, so audition early if she has particular favourites.

Let us know how she does!!!

:)

Thanks for all of the great info - I will google the songs! It sure is quite a process and best prepared for.
