Are all Character meals Buffet?

I have had gastric bypass and can't eat enough to justify nearly (or more) $20 for a few bites of food. I would love to do a character meal though. Are there any that have meals that you can order off of a menu? My girls are pretty content with the attention they received from the characters in and around the parks, so I wasn't too worried about doing a meal, but thought it might be nice surprise. If there aren't any menu types, what is the most reasonably priced buffet? My youngest loves the princess' but she will be pleased with any of the characters really. TIA

As far as I can recall, if they aren't buffet, they are pre-plated meals or served family style.

All Character Meals are not buffet. CRT, at least for breakfast is pre-plated, however you can ask for substitutions. I, for example am allergic to eggs so they gave me something else instead. The Garden Grill was the same way. It was "family style" however because I had food allergies they brought my husband out the regular size skillet with everything on it, and then brought me a small skillet that met my special dietary concerns. They are really flexible so I would just put in whatever request you may have and express your concerns. I don't know when you are going, and I know the Garden Grill is closed now, but as far as non-greasy food character meals, the Garden Grill was really good.

My family did the Princess Breakfast in Epcot 2 years ago. . .and all continental-type foods were brought to our tables on trays. As I remember, it was lighter fare . .. but very tasty. The kids LOVED this - even the boys!

At Cinderella's Table, they offered the regular adult meal, or the healthy adult meal, but everything would have been the same price.

You could do the Ice Cream Social for an afternoon treat. You don't get much, but it is a great way to see Mickey, Pluto, and Chip-n-Dale pretty inexpensive.

They even have an option for non-eaters.

thanks for the link! It was exactly what I was hoping to hear.

When we went to WDW the first time, I had a PS for the Ice Cream social, but we didn't make it. I can't eat the ice cream, but the rest of the family can, so it would work out great. We are going the first week of April, so I'm not sure if it will be open again by then or not. I'd love to know about the non-eaters option too!

When we went in Dec it was 6.75 per person, and they offered $5 for the non-eaters. DH doesn't eat ice cream.. not for health reasons... he's just INSANE!!

I completely agree, they have wonderful food.
It was my first time having catfish and it was spectacular!
I'm now a catfish eater!

As for the question at hand, I've been to many character meals and I agree you'll encounter either buffet or family style.

I recall reading on AllEars that the Liberty Tree Tavern character meal admits non-eaters for a $5 "entertainment" fee. Perhaps you could order desert (which is usally an extra charge item) and a beverage, while the rest of the family eats. (or grab a quick service meal more to your needs right before going in)

Not sure if the other character meals offer the $5 'admission-only' option with no food included.
