My wife and decided to get a cat on Friday. Initially, our thinking was, "Well, we've seen a couple of mice, so a cat would get rid of them, and they're easy to take care of."
However, we both fell in love with it immediately. Most cats I've come across aren't that friendly. The either scratch, bite or both. Our Tootsie (that was her name from the shelter) is an angel. She's lovable, fun, and always uses the litter box. She sleeps right between my wife and I. Granted, she's only 6 months old, but I can't imagine her tempermant changing if her enviroment doesn't.

. I seriously will never get another cat again. I had some wonderful cats growing up (and a few horrible ones). It isn't worth it to me to end up with 10-20 years of a bad one. Of course, I'm not a big cat person either. I love the doggies!
