Are All APs Paper?

Just wondering...I will be picking up an AP for our next trip down in a couple of months. Are all APs that paper/cardboard stuff? I noticed that the Disney Store now sells park passes made of plastic - do they have APs this way too?

I'm not sure why they don't go to the hard plastic. We end up getting ours replaced 6-8 times a year because they won't scan.
