Are activities at HHI limited in spring?

We have never been to Hilton Head and are seriously considering going during spring break, which is the last week in March. I have read comments about certain activities which don't happen except during the summer. Just wanting to be sure there are plenty of activites for us, esp. 12 yo son. We particularly want to see dolphins -- are there excursions in the spring and are the dolphins out and about, or it that a seasonal activity, too?

Thanks for any help.

The dolphins are there year around! :)

There are some activities offered during the summer months only (like the weekly fireworks, the 4th of July programs and some of the more seasonal programs), but the vast majority of the recreational programs offered at the resort may be enjoyed throughout the year.

Most of the nature programs (including Dolphin Watch and fishing excursions) are still available.

We've been there many times in the Spring (mostly in March) and the resort staff always has a full compliment of activities for all ages to enjoy.

Have a great stay! :)

The dolphins tend to be further out during the early spring than later in the season, but dolphin cruises run year round and the dolphins are there year round. We were there in mid-April this year and it was quite warm. On our way back to the resort from our dolphin cruise there were a couple dolphins well up Broad Creek toward the resort. Our captain said that was the first time in 2006 that they had been seen in Broad Creek and that far up towards Shelter Cove. He said that during the winter they tend to stay in deeper water out closer to the open ocean.

We really enjoyed HHI! :thumbsup2

We had our DS17 in tow & he liked the activites, also. Perhaps there is a DIS person who can scan in a schedule & email it to you, or simply call DVC HHI to email you a copy.

We did see frolicking dolphins, in the early morning hours usually, between 5 am to roughly, 7 am. Right up there near 'parking garage with a drop dead view' under the Live Oaks Lodge (where you'll be checking in). We went in late March of this year.

As for activities, there's plenty of kayaking trips--both DVC & local, if you are a competent kayaker you may want to rent one locally, our guys found the DVC trips informative, but geared for novices--, wildlife walks, B'lou Crabbe magic shows, pre-teen & teen pizza & movie outings (divided into age groups--DS17 found this a fizzle, as there weren't enough kids his age present), Hidden Mickeys Walk; DVC owners wine & cheese get together; low country boil (great, but bring your own shrimp cocktail sauce ;) ) etc

Yep, no fireworks, but we loved HHI!
Took us a couple of days to wind down, but we enjoyed it so much we stayed an extra night!

March has been our main time to go. One March we saw dolphins swimming around in the small inlet by the lodge building. One year, our trip started at the end of February, and that's when I went on the dolphin tour, and yes, I did see dolphins. However, I've gotta say, seeing them "au natural", so to speak, was more exciting. We've never been there in the summer, so it's hard to compare, but from what I've heard, the activities are in full force even in March.

Yes, the same activities are offered year 'round (with the obvious exceptions already noted ;)), but just not as often. Some of the kids' activities might be offered 3 or 4 times a week when the resort is full, but only once or twice at other times of the year.

You'l love it there!!!! :thumbsup2

We were at HHI in November, 2001. There were lots of activites. And the pool was open for those hardy souls who just had to have a swim. It was cool but we had a great time. And joined nearly all the activities (2 mature women without children!) I think I liked Goofy Bingo the best.
We took a Dolphine cruise and loved it. Saw lots of Dolphins up close and personal.
So don't worry there will be lots to do.
