Are 6 pins each enough to start trading?

This is our first trip, and from reading about pin trading, I know my kids will get into it. I've secretly been buying small lots of them on ebay, so that when we go, I can give each of my three kids 6 of them to start a collection. I figure they can save their favorites and have a few to trade. Is this enough? I'll tell them they can buy more with their money if they get really into it. I guess I just want to be ready, since they love this sort of thing. :thumbsup2

Yes to start with also let them just keep trading .Let them have fun with them.

I usually buy 10 pins for each of my kids to start with. But I don't give them all to them at the same time. That way after a few days, when they don't want to trade away any of the pins that they have, I bring out a few more "trading pins". They have a great time pin-trading. We have an extensive collection of pins at home. But since they don't want to trade away pins from prior trips, I keep having to buy lots of new pins for each trip!

Yes, six is enough, but if they are anything like DD - they wind up liking them too much and want to keep them. I had bought a whole bunch of pins for her from EBAY purposely ones in lots that I figured she would not like... well, she always found something special about them and would want to keep them. We have a bulletin board full of favorite pins now and only about 4 that she will trade! YIKES!

I need to get busy on EBAY and buy some more since this is our "busy" time of the year going to parks!

BTW - we are playing HOKEY this afternoon and heading to Animal Kindgom - it's under 80 degrees and cloudy - the ONLY way I like to go to AK!!!!

my kids started with 2 each, my older just traded til he got what he wanted,my younger kept on trading, just b/c he loved trading, right up until we left! this year I'm giving each of them approximately 8 pins to trade, and that's plenty of fun for them! I usually give them ones i know they don't like,so it's easy to get started.....

I don't mean to be a thread hijacker, but I have a quesiton about pin trading, I bought some for my 3 kids to trade, but I am worried the younger 2 might not be old enough for it. Thier ages are 8,6, and 4. How old are your pin trading kids???

my little guy was 4 when he started, the cm's are very kind to the kids, and adults!

Ahck! I just did this too! I bought a set of "mystery" pins and ended up with a bunch of great pins, including 6 of the cast-member series hats and boxes.

But to OP, six should be plenty to start. As you said, they can buy more traders with their own money if they want to. There are always a few cheaper sets that people buy to trade.

My DD5 is very shy, but even she enjoys pin trading. When she was 3, she would see the older kids pin-trading, so that made her want to try it. They all really enjoy it (almost as much as DH!)

Just wondering what this pin trading is all about... can someone please fill me in, we are going in May and would like to know so the kids don't miss out on something fun!! Thanks

Six is plenty to start trading. My kids started with just three pins. You really don't need many to trade. I've never had a CM, not trade with the kids because they didn't have many to choose from. Trading is fun, but we quickly learned that one of our kids really enjoyed the collecting more than trading. My husband typically buys them a pin a day (most days). It's become a tradition that he and the kids really enjoy picking them out together. We have one kid that keeps their pins on the lanyard and one that now has a book filled with their pins.
