I received an "invitation" since I'm one of their "best customers" (it will be interesting to see just how limited this event is) for a thing tomorrow morning from 830-930 at Archivers. Bring the invitation for a free gift, yadayadayada. OK, I need to go to Archiver's anyway, but just to be safe, I called to see if I could bring DDs (9 & 7, major scrapbookers themselves, spend more at Archiver's than *I* do) since DH has to work tomorrow and I have no one else to watch them. I was told no. I could bring ONE DD, but not both and I CANNOT receive the "free gift" after the shindig ends at 930, but both DDs can come in AFTER 930. So, now I have to drag them out of bed early, drive 30 minutes to Archiver's, go in the door at 925 to receive my "free gift" while leaving DDs in the car (which I intend to park right at the front door), then go wait until they open at 930 to conduct my business.

This really, REALLY peeves me. It could be that I was a single mother for 10 years and was treated like cr*% the whole time, so I'm super sensitive about it, but what if I *WERE* a single mom? I'm not a "best customer" anymore? They can't hold one of their precious gifts until my DDs ARE allowed in the store at 930? Sheesh!

I've already reduced how much I shop there since they did away with the 15% (and the only coupon I get is for 25% off paper...whoopee, as if I need more paper  ), but this has put me over the edge. I will frequent my LSS more often rather than deal with this kind of "customer service".

I've already emailed corporate and I will speak with the manager in the morning (b/c once I get there, she'll recognize me).

Vent over...back to my regularly scheduled scrapbooking!!!

Give me a break, it's a store, not an airport or a hospital. There's no reason you shouldn't have been able to being them with you.

I shop there less and less, because they don't have good deals or coupons. I can even use Michaels or Joann's Coupons at my LSS, which is right down the street from Archivers. We felt bad when Archivers moved in so close to her store. So we always dub them as "evil". I like supporting the smaller businesses. And the service in Archivers isn't all that great, either.

Is that enough Archivers' bashing for you? :rotfl:

I can't believe the told you you could bring one but not both of your daughters. What do they expect you to do with the second one, leave her all alone? Jeez, what idiots (IMO). I probably would bring both anyway and just let them try to tell me I have to leave one outside. I highly doubt they want anyone to make a stink in front of other customers.
(I have little patience these days for people who won't allow children around. Don't even get me started on issues I'm having with ILs and bringing our baby to family functions.)

It's easier to get forgiveness than permission. This old lady would have taken the girls and if they were asked to leave or not permitted in, I would have looked down my nose at the 'bouncer' and said 'excuse ME?" Loudly and in my haughtiest tone with my valued customer invitation prominently displayed. Let them try to get me out - heheh.

I've never been to Archiver's -- dont' think they are around here, but I wouldn't even have asked permission to bring kids... doesn't matter if they're nine years or nine months old... if you are a parent and you are taking care of your children, they come with you. You are SHOPPING for heaven's sake... you're not at work, you're not in surgery, you're not going to a fancy wedding... geez.... that store sounds like it doesn't want to try to be very accomodating, even for it's BEST customers. Ugh... I bet a bunch of people show up with children anyway. I'd ignore what they told you and go in with both kids... or else say in a very loud voice "okay, I'll go put my child unattended in the car because you won't let her stay with me". What idiots.

Unless I really, really, really needed something from that store, I would vote with my pocketbook & not go.

Wow, that is unbelievable. We don't have one of those stores near us, and now I'm glad. I hope you get your free gift and it's something cool to be worth this aggravation.

My spending at Archiver's has been very little with the change in the 15% off program (their coupons now are laughable). If they told me I could not bring my children to their invitation only event, I would not go. Have you ever gotten any of their free gifts? Maybe tomorrow's will be better, but in the past the gifts I got were pretty lame; A die cut airplane and a package of mismatched brads (several were broken).

Personally I'm not a big fan of Archivers. I can wander around the store for an hour but I don't buy much. I hate how their paper is arranged; not by brand, but by theme. I understand why they do it, you'll spend more money if you are in the store longer looking for paper that's spread all over the place.

Good luck with what you decide. And let us know how the event went (I go the invite but am not going).

The ironic part is that I have to go to make a *return*. I've got a free paper coupon I'm going to use and I *might* use a 25% off, but that's it. I think I'm done with them.

OMG! I shop there all the time ( here in Georgia) and I bring my girls with me all the time and never had a problem, the ladies are so nice and on the weekends they give out ballons to the kids, and they can go in one of the rooms to make kids crafts while we shop.
They classes are great, some are free and the ladies are very friendly.

Sorry you had such a bad experience.

I am also mad at Archivers for taking there 15% discount away. The lady at my Archivers told me that one of the reasons was because one person would buy into the membership and then after she checked out she would hand it to her friend (who didn't have a membership) and then they would use the card. I don't know if that is really true or not. Now that I have read your difficulties at Archievers I don't know if I will go there as much. The coupons they send in the mail or email are not much of anything. Getting 5 sheets of cardstock is not much of a savings. So now I visit my LSS more.

Update: I showed up at 928 am and the store was SWAMPED. I parked right at the curb and went straight to an available cashier to do the free gift thing (turned out to be a little album kit, not bad) and was a bit short with her. The asst manager was standing right there and recognized me, so I told her what had happened and made it clear that this would be my last visit for awhile (I've made friends with a worker there who is also a Disney freak...one reason for my trip today was to take her a Passporter), so I will be back to visit her and tell her how our cruise went, but that's pretty much it. The M&T lines were a mile long, so I just grabbed the few items I needed and, with my return, walked out with $1.92 extra in my pocket. BTW, at 10am they were still giving out the free gift thing to those with the coupons, so I guess I really didn't have to drag everyone out of bed early, after all.

My LSS is a lot closer and not any more expensive, so they'll get the majority of my business from now on.

We don't have an Archivers around Nashville so I'm not familiar w/them but from what I've gathered here, you have to be a member to shop in their store? Someone explain to me. :confused3

If someone told me I couldn't bring my girls into their store or said I could only bring one of them, I'd tell them to jump in a lake. Obviously they don't want or need my business!!

No you don't have to be a member. It is a photo/scrapbooking store that started at the Mall of America. It really is a neat place to shop. Last year the store started a membership that you could purchase and then receive 15% of every item in the store. It was great. Then this year the store took that away from the members and started to email and send out coupons for like one item 40% kind of thing, 5 sheets of cardstock free a month, ect... you get the picture, bottom line is the more you spend there the more coupons you get. They also have make and takes and special events that are held in the store. I am sure they will be in Tennessee soon.
