Arabic Newspaper...over 32 need not apply

I was reading this newspaper out of curiosity, just browsing the job ads...maximum age for this job? 32!!

Why is that????


Air-condition Technicians
Duties:
To be responsible for air-conditioning - especially chiller type - maintenance, including control circuits, compressors and operating systems. Good knowledge in chiller mechanical parts essential.

Qualifications & Experience:

1. Diploma in the air-conditioning
2. Minimum nine years relevant experience
3. Experience of air conditioning and electrical systems at TV studios preferred
4. Good spoken and written English
5. Maximum 32-years-old

Got me, but it reminds me of some of the federal jobs here that I receive notices on. Some have an age limit of 35. Isn't that age discrimination? So glad to see the gov't. is exempt from that.

Could be an insurance thing. The amount of lifting or climbing or whatever that's required? Either that, or the technology has changed recently and they figure anyone over 32 won't know the new stuff. But based on the specific age, I'd guess insurance.

Still sounds like age discrimination to me. Alot of people over 32 have a lot of knowledge and can move around and lift heavy things. They keep current in their fields. I am not surprised at age discrimination from the govt. It is one of the last areas in which discrimination is OK.

Well, what I thought it might be is that they have an early retirement age or a low life expectancy. Could that be?

It is not just that job...this one has a maximum age of 40.
Very strange to me. There must be a reason.

Electrical Engineer
Duties:

To be responsible for MV panels and ACBs (1600 ampere), handle electrical projects and design. Must deal well with drawing and control circuit schematics and have experience in uninterrupted power supply (UPS).

Qualifications & Experience:

1. University degree in electrical engineering
2. Minimum seven years relevant experience
3. Experience with electrical systems at TV studios preferred
4. Good spoken and written English
5. Proficient in PC applications
6. Maximum 40-years-old

When I was in England I was surprised at what the job ads could say. I remember seeing several for hostess/reception type positions that came right out and said things like "only young, attractive females need apply."
