AP's vs. MYW tix: NO savings anymore?

I was looking at tickets prices on disney.com and was wondering...it seems that it is no longer more cost effective to purchase an AP if you are staying up to 10 days, than it would be to buy a MYW ticket (with plus option and park hopper option. I don't need tix that never expire).

It used to be that after 8 days it was more cost effective to buy AP's than a Park hopper (or whatever the name of the ticket was).

So now I can go for say 7 days with the 2 features (hopping/plus) for only $284. An AP is $515.

If this is all true, then color me a happy camper.

For 7 days, you would be better with the MYW ticket. The main reason I bought the AP ticket was to get the AP rate at a deluxe hotel. My hotel bill is $200 cheaper, and I'm planning on a second trip to Disney. I also am purchasing the Dining Disney Experience card for AP holders, so I get 20 percent off meals at all sitdown restaurants and a few counter service.

I have an AP, but I go a lot more then 7 days so it is more cost effective for me. (I bribe myself into visiting my dad by allowing myself a day at Disney. It's not that I don't love my dad, but he lives in the world's most BORING part of Florida LOL)

It depends on how many days you are going to be visiting WDW during the rolling twelve months your AP is good for. We have had APs for years now and since we come down two to three times during each AP period it is well worth it. Also, we have been able to get room discounts with our APs and this year there is a new benifit that allows you to buy the DDE at a discounted pice of $50 and then you get 20% at almost all of the sitdown places and some counter service places.

I think everyone needs to do the math for thier individual situation and see what works best for them.

It all depends on how long you're going. We went for 8 nights last year and are going for 14 nights this year (all within the 365 days). Plus we got the AP discount for our hotel last year (hopefully this year as well) and we're going to buy the DDE for only $50. FOr us the AP makes sense.

You're right. This is no longer true. It's definitely an advantage for you to get the MYW tickets in your situation ::yes:: .

If you went for 7 days twice during the year:

MYW $284 x 2 = $568
AP = $515
Savings = $53

You can get two expiring non-hopping 10 day MYW tickets for about the same price as an annual pass (either plus pack / Premium AP or not).

With hopping, the break even point between MYW and AP is about 12 days (again either plus pack / PAP or not).

Advance purchase discounts favor MYW even more, but offset by AP benefits.

Disney hints:

The break even point in the recent past between PAP and other admission media used to be 11 days for two or more trips and 14 days all in one trip.

Well, I am staying at AKL for 199.00 peak season-spring break for 5 nightsl. The rack rate is 370.00 a night. I am saving 170.00 a night with my AP, that pays for 2 AP by itself and I still get to go to the parks and get the DDE.

Smaller discounts are often available to non-AP holders, for example AAA members. Also for bookings within selected periods of time or stays within selected periods of time there may be discounts for other arbitrary groups of people such as residents of certain states, or even for everybody.

I ahve seen occasions when other discounts came within about $10. of the AP rate for value resorts and within $20. of the AP rate for moderate resorts.
