Am I incorrect with my thinking that I can purchase my families AP directly through MS via a phone call?

I prefer to purchase online through the member website to insure that the transaction is handled correctly.

I also buy my APs online. All you really get is a will call voucher that you have to turn in at WDW to get your actual APs with each person's name on it. Generally we renew in person when we can, but when buying new APs, always online. Much easier to get it done that way for us, esp. if the price is getting ready to go up as it sometimes does in late summer.

Yes, if you are applying another ticket to the purchase, it does have to be done in person. We are actually doing that for my husband's AP in October. His pass expires in July (off schedule because of the 15 month renewal a couple of years ago). Since we don't have an August trip planned, we will buy him a new AP. We have a 6 day ticket I bought for my grandson a couple of years ago, who cancelled out on the trip. So I'm going to give it a try to do the bridge ticket technique that I've read about here on the boards. We keep our APs staggered, so that we both don't have to buy an AP at the same time. My DH use to be May and I use to be October, but after the extra long time given a couple of years ago, we are a little off our schedule. I'm now January, so still a different purchase.

I'm just trying to make sure I understand AP's correctly. We are going the end of July to WDW. I could go online to the member website, purchase my AP's any time, but I will receive a voucher in the mail that I will take to guest services at one of the parks, correct? When does the AP actually go in to effect? Is it the day you actually take the voucher and exchange it for your pass? Also, can you do all of this at your resort instead of waiting until you get to the parks? TIA!

The main benefit is if there is a price increase, you have it at the current price. Some people also like to spread their families purchases out (like buy 1 a month).

You can buy your voucher years before you use it and it will give you access to the AP website at Disney. We bought several vouchers and non-expiring tickets before the price increases a few years ago. Depending on our yearly WDW plans we will use the tickets or activate the AP.

Does that mean that the annual passes don't begin until the date you trade in your voucher then? Thanks!

Correct, the clock doesn't start until you exchange the voucher for the AP at Disney.

Concierge at your resort can sell you an AP but if you have a special circumstance, they tend to get confused. Also the Pass will be printed on room key plastic stock and unless you read it, it looks like a room key. There have been a couple of posts where a member threw their AP away after their trip thinking that it was their expired room key.

Is the AP for exactly one year from date of purchase or is it like the TIW that ends at the end of the month following one year?

AP's expire 1 year (and 1 day I believe) from validation, not the end of a month.
