hi. so if i buy a 5 day hopper for $209, going thanksgiving week, use ticket throughout week, nov. 20-28....blackout days are the 25th, 26th, and 27th...enter park on 27th (our last day), upgrade to AP and pay balance of $90. (ap = $299.) ??

*is this right?
*they dont make you leave park b/c of blackout date since we are now ap holders, do they?
*i thought i had read somewhere that you only get the remaining balance of your ticket tword the ap....since our last day, only that day remaining....hence 1 day's price twords ap....hope thats not right!

thanks a bunch!!

Yes. No. No. :goodvibes

Yes, your understanding of the math is correct, you pay the diffference of what your AP cost and what you paid for your existing VALID ticket.

As long as you have already entered the Park on your PH on the day of a blockout, they do not make you leave. You are there that day on your PH.

As for the remaining balance, etc... NOT true.

Have a great trip - and wait to do your shopping unti you have the AP (and use your discount). ;)

thanks soooo much for the quick reply!

im thinking how can you not upgrade for only 90$$ each?!?!

have a great day!:goodvibes

Witch AP are you going to get? :)

and yes don't do ANY shopping till you get the pass!! ;) that would be mean if they made you leave the park if you had just gotten the pass but it was black out day...

:) It looks like you're planning on getting the deluxe AP since you mentioned the price of $299. Since there is no shopping discount with that one, there's no need to wait to do your shopping. (The shopping discount is only with the premium AP).

Ah true. But there is the dining and tours discount to keep in mind and plan accordingly.

One exception about your last day to note though, If you plan to park hop or leave the park and come back, make sure you upgrade AFTER you do all those things because once you leave the park on your block out day you are out. They will not let you back in unless you pay for a blockout day ticket $40ish. This is true as it happened to a friend, she got Deluxe and I got Premium and we went over to CA Adventure to ride Screamin' one last time. As that day was a block out for her eventhough she had just upgraded she was no longer on her PH she was on her AP and was not allowed into the park.

However, compared to what is *supposed to happen*, what happened to your friend was wrong. She should have gone to another CM and gotten their lead.

You are supposed to be welcome to enjoy the parks, and hop, on that day. What happened to your friend was wrong.

I don' tknow if it's still going on, but they actually HAVE been giving a merchandise discount to Deluxe holders for awhile now...and I remember reading recently that it's been extended. So depending on if that extension continues, and when your trip is, you might get the discounts on merchandise...

That is true. I was there Memorial Day weekend and they told me that they are doing a promo and are giving PAP holders 20% off merchandise (compared to 15% before) and all other APs get 10% off until the end of September :thumbsup2

I did this a few years ago and was given a special paper ticket that allowed me to park hop.

That's good to know. :) I totally forgot about hearing about this a while back. When I checked on DLR's website page with the prices of AP's and the various discounts, it still shows the regular chart and has only the premium pass as having a merchandise discount. It's great that they are doing this for the Deluxe AP's. I wish we had a trip planned so that we could take advantage of this.

they do back-date your AP though. I just did this over Memorial day weekend...bought my AP on Monday a.m. and my AP expires 360 days later, not 365. (had a five-day parkhopper).

Actually there is a 10 % discount thru mid sept with a dap.

We've been doing WDW for the last couple of years, but we're returning to Disneyland this fall. If things still work the same way, then consider this:

If you go with just one adult in the party having the Premium AP, you get free parking plus you get the shopping discount (which I believe is 10% but only at certain stores). The Premium also has no black out dates, but that's of no value if the rest of your party has black out dates.

So, my math works like this....the difference between the $299 deluxe and the $439 premium is $140. I can add free parking to the $299 deluxe for $79....so that means you're basically paying $61 for no black out dates which you'll never use and a 10% shopping discount. That means you have to spend $610 before you break even for the shopping discount.

Since I sadly don't have that kind of souvenior budget, I'll stick with the dexlue plus parking. If you spend substantially more than $600 in souveniors at the select stores, then the Premium might make better sense for your family.

Also, if you really want to go to the park on a blackout day, you can buy a discounted blackout ticket for $45. That's about half the regular cost so in some ways it's a bargain, but if there are two or more blackout dates you'll be wanting to go, then upgrade to the Premium, it's cheaper that way.

Me too...I upgraded to Deluxe on my last day, which was a Saturday. I don't remember if I asked or if they volunteered it up, but I got the pass too. And when I went to CA they wanted to see it.

OP - I haven't read all the posts but also, FYI - your AP will start on the first day you used your pass, not the day you upgraded...for example, if today you upgraded your 5 day ticket that you started using June 1, your AP will be good thru June 1, 2011.
