For those who have adult kids: how often do you like to see them and hear from them? I have a tough time, only hearing from my oldest every few weeks and seeing him maybe twice a month. I think ideally I would like to see or hear from him once a week. Well...I would love for him to live next door, lol. Ack, I am having a tough time with the empty nest.

All of my kids live within a mile of me. I see DD1 just about every day, I babysit her kids. I see my other 2 at least once a week.

No advice, mine is off to college and we see him about once a week. I have had a super hard time adjusting and we do talk/text just about every day, I can't imagine weeks.

I would be "that" stalker Mom, driving by making sure his car was in the driveway or at work or at school. I'm really pathetic I know . I use his sister (10) as an excuse to make sure he checks in often since she really does miss him also.

I never experienced the empty nest syndrome. Every time one of mine moved out, I cheerfully took another leaf out of my kitchen table.


But I'm lucky because they all live within a mile from me and I see them often.

Well, I am 46 and talk to my parents pretty much daily.
But they are in their 80's, so I do it to "check in" and make sure they are OK.

My dd is away at college and she calls everyday. Now she does this on her own I have never told her she has to. But I think girls are diff. about it.

I'm going to be facing that for the first time next year. I don't know how I will handle it. I know I'd like to see her a couple times a week but that's not likely to happen. I'll probably see her at least twice a month though because I think she'll miss us too.

Awww, here's a big {hug} Saphire. It does take time to adjust to the empty nest lifestyle indeed, after all the nurturing and hustle bustle of a busy family life. I remember feeling so lost when each left, but in time DH and I learned to recaptured things we'd put on the back burner for so long and had plenty time for our own interest and activites at long last.

I'm much older than most here, so ours have been gone for quite a few years. We hear from our 3 daughters daily, 2 are local so we see often, and one out of state we see every couple mos. One daughter we see daily as we take care of our little grandson . Our DS on the other hand is military, out of state, so every week or two is about his limit. As far as son's visits ~ sadly twice a year and it is difficult, but we have web cams and photo videos that are a Godsend with the grands. They're hoping to be transfered closer next year, but I won't hold my breath with military.....as deployment is also on horizon.

Like many, your son is probably so busy and thinks of you more often than he calls. Also keep in mind, there is no distance in a mother and child's love.

My son that I speak of is a Pediatric Resident in another state. I know he is so busy, and I am so proud of him but miss him terribly. Military Mom's have it so much worse than me, but there is a part that is similar. Our children have given up a lot to pursue their call.

I don't have any grandchildren yet, but when I do I aspire to be like you, 4nana...you have so much love surrounding you. That picture is of my DD, now 19, and it is a favorite of mine.

it will be okay. It is hard knowing that they are grown ups but we still want to baby them

I didn't think you had any grands Saphire, but sometimes I do have senior moments . Thought I remembered that your DD recently began her college journey and you posting nice photos of your sons graduating college and one beginning his medical career. Yes, as Mom's we certainly go through many emotions as the each spread their wings.

Awww Saphire, thx for the nana comment . I give it my best shot , as I love and enjoy my roll indeed. We're very blessed and our grands definitely put a bright spot in each day!
