We're wanting to book a trip during easter break for (prefer beach club). Our home resort is SSR. So, should we book at 11 months with ssr and then just call at 7 and hope for the best with BC? Are there any weird rules about doing such a thign?

Yes, book home and try at 7 for preference.

Word of warning. We just did a 4/1-4/9 trip and the crowds were the worst that we have ever seen. Others have reported the same later in the month. We waited 90 minutes for Soar'n. Some have reported 120 minute wait for some rides and a hour for the buses. We will never go to WDW in April again.

Yeah, crowds aren't an issue for us. Our daughter is only 1 and an early riser. We usually go really early and get done fairly early in the parks. We haven't been riding the fast (high crowd) rides the last few trips because we dont' really want to ride by ourselves.
So, we do Disney pretty leisurely lately. We want to do Easter for the festivities for the little one (she'll be almost 2 then). Easter egg hunts and seeing the easter bunny will be a real treat at Disney.
We've gone in april a few times and never really thought the crowds were too awful. We've even gone as "riders" and not felt there was too much of an issue. I guess it depends on what time you are there, how "crowd-o-phobic" (is that a word) you are and what kinds of things you are doing at certain times of the day.
to be honest, I must not be too bothered by crowds because we have gone at some of the busiest times and I have never gone home thinking the crowds were so bad I'd never go back at that time. Now, my mom on the other hand is totally opposite. She'd never go back if it was even a little bit crowded. She tries to book at the least crowded times. But, I'm a teacher so the times I can go are usually the most crowded.

We were there 4/6-11 and EMH at MK we got there before 8am, went directly to Peter Pan, and the que was already open with a 20 minute wait when we got there.

I'm just sayin. I've been height of summer, memorial day, NYD, and NEVER seen anything close in terms of crowds.

That said - we'll probably go back this year because I loved the weather. I just don't think we'll plan much park time and we'll definitely avoid all early mornings (which seemed to be the worst - onsite hotels were all 100% and I think everyone savvy enough to stay onsite was doing the "get there early" trick)

We were at WDW from 4/13-4/17 and I was surprised at how crowded it was. I was hoping that since Easter was in March this year it wouldn't be so bad. In addition it was unusually cold for that time or year. We didn't put shorts on until Thursday when we left for our Disney Cruise. In spite of that WDW is so lovely in April so we'd give it a try again. Actually, as of next year we won't be tied to the school schedule so we can go in May if we like, hmmmm.
