We're WDW vets, but the kids would like to try DL next year. Since my eldest will be in middle school I think going during school vacations would be best (we usually travel in May or November).

Since we're DL virgins, would you suggest April vacation week (not Easter week) vs. the last week of August in terms of crowds? Also how is August in terms of heat?

Thanks!

It can be ho in August, but no rain and humidity like Florida.

It depends on when in each month for crowds. Late August tails off as DLR as schools start up. It can be busy but fine during the first couple weeks. In the third week APs can be unblocked and add to crowds.

In April the first couple weeks are very busy, the 3rd week things drops off and it's not bad.

Late August - as Ski said be aware of trends that are related to AP blockouts - "Understanding AP Blockouts and Impact on Crowds" www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2365983

If you go in August before the AP blockout lifts (usually around Aug 20) then the crowds will likely be less than during Spring Break. If you go after they could be worse. Depends on the year and what major blockbuster DLR opened for summer.

Weather will be coolor of course during Spring Break but have a higher chance of rain.

April will have a higher chance of a major refurb happening. But if you do go the last week of August that is usually when HM goes down for its annual overlay. Being WDW vets you may not care too much about missing HM - it is similar to the one at WDW.
