April discounts

I know this is extremely far out but what can I say...everything is just about planned for our August 2012 trip so now I moved on to April 2013 trip LOL! Yes I need a 12 step program. This year, there is a 30% off deluxes for our dates (we want to be in Disney on April 25, 2013 for our 10 year anniversary). However, from what I see, the 30% off is only for Beach Club, Yacht Club and Boardwalk, then 20-25% off Poly. I don't see anything for Contemporary. Is this accurate?

That is correct; if you look at the same promo under the mods category, it is the same thing. Certain weeks show only a handful of the moderates and not all of them.

This is a good indication that IMHO, Disney is starting to dangle their feet in the water on scaling back discounts.

I hope not! With a family of five, we just can NOT afford to go at all without some sort of discount! Oh please Disney do not stop!

They won't stop them all together; they are just scaling back because there is an indication the economy is bouncing back in their neck of the woods.

Ultimately, they have to answer to their stockholders and if they can fill resorts, by scaling back discounts, it will happen. The last few years have been very odd as far as the amount of discounts goes; I wouldn't use historical data for the past three years on discounts or count on them to be the same.

Oh I TOTALLY get what you mean. At the end of the day, they are a business. And if they can fill their rooms without discounts, then more power to them, however, I just think they are still pretty expensive and since the cheapest we can do is stay at POR, we just can't go (or stay onsite which I never stayed offsite so not sure I'd want to!). Of course Disney can care less about little family in the grand scheme of things, but I'm bummed for me lol! I at least want to go for our 10 year. I'm planning to stay deluxe for the first time and MAYBE getting the DDP to try some finer dining. Of course, all of that means we needs discounts LOL!

Sounds like you plan on going to WDW quite a bit over the next several years. I did the same thing, which is why I bought into DVC. I would scour mousesavers and the web, hoping for a great AP discount (FD does nothing for me) so we can plan our next trip. After doing the math after our third trip in three years, we discovered it made sense to buy into DVC. That way, we know we're staying in deluxe type accomodations every time we go, and more importantly, our accomodations are already paid for, so we don't have to stress about saving for the hotel!

I recently got married and my wife and I are planning on starting a family soon, so for us, knowing we'll be going to WDW for the next 40 years with our soon to be kids and the ability to hand the ownership off to them when they grow up makes DVC ownership ideal. It never hurts to take the tour when your're there!

I have to agree; one of my co-workers recently adopted his two granddaughters (age 4 and 6)- well, about two years ago. They have been 4 times already and they bought DVC at BLT. They feel the same way; it is going to be wonderful to pass along to them after a rocky start to their lives.....

I wish I had done it the first year I went down; the downpayment was $15,000.00 at the time and the yearly fee was about $800.00. However, now Disney also got me hooked on cruising and I prefer to go every other year, and do different cruise lines. So it wouldn't have worked as well for me.

See I have looked into it briefly but from what I saw, it didn't make sense for us. Our vacation styles are very different than that. I refuse to cook or clean while on vacation and we also are a family of five with three young kids that love character dining and we love trying all different kinds of restaurants. So free dining for us makes a lot of sense! Plus we go the time of the year typically (end of August) that makes getting a good discount a reality. But for us if we included dining, and passes, and getting there it would cost us like $3K. We pay 3K now to go for 10 days at POR with dining and park passes.

Then add in the fees to the DVC and it just doesn't make sense to us. If I am wrong, PLEASE correct me. But it seems for our family of five the hotel itself isn't really the expesnive part (since we typically stay at POR and its not as expensive as a deluxe) but maybe I am thinking of this all wrong? I don't know.
