April 8, 2006 Western Magic Cruise

Happy Holidays everyone.

I hope everyone is enjoying spending time with their family and friends.

Lori

Hello everyone!

Hope everyone enjoyed their holidays and time off!

Our cruise is coming up sooner than we know it! I guess we can start making ressies in a few weeks! Anyone paid in full yet? I'm not looking forward to that bill!

OK, we need to start planning our excursions. Who wants to do the Grand Cayman stingrays? Should we go with Capt Marvins or another company?

What about other ports?

UMTerp

Hi guys. Yes I was thinking about going ahead and paying the bill. I think it is due on the 6th of Jan. Ressies start a week from Sat. Remember to those who are unaware---you have to be paid in full to do ressies on Jan 8th. for CC members. I don't know when first timers do ressies.

I was reading on another link about all the DIS ers linking their ressies and having a whole section of the dining room to themselves. Who would be up for doing that? Anyone know how?

Lets help each other reason when good days and nights for palos would be.

Are we going to do a tag magnet? How about a logo for tshirts? Door signs? So much to consider.

We are definitely in on stingrays in GC, we would like to do one of the beach clubs in Cozumel, no plans for KW, or CC.

Judy

Hi All,

I haven't been around for some time but since the ressie date is coming up I've started my investigating again. While checking out other boards for excursion info, I ran across some port information that says the Magic is due in Costa Maya on April 12th and not Cozumel. I called Disney and was told that they are currently sending the Magic to Costa Maya (due to Wilma) but are hoping by April to schedule it again for Cozumel. I'm hoping so! I read a post that says jelly fish love it there in April and May.

Regarding excursions - here are our tentative plans (DH, DD-7 & DS-7)

Key West - on our own, maybe stay on the ship for a bit
GC - RRR (Rays, Reef, & Rum Point) thru NativeWay
Cozumel - probably Paradise Beach, maybe Playa Mia Beach - still researching
CC - the beach thing

I'm interested to hear what others are doing.

Thanks,
MNRae

So I'm a bit slow on the Costa Maya thing. I just started reading more on this thread to find out that Costa Maya is no news flash. I should have read this first!! It's a newbie mistake.

MNrae - Have you done that excursion before through Native Way? Sounds interesting. Do you have a link to where we can find more info? Thanks!

Judy - What's a tag magnet? I'm not familiar with that. T-shirt design
would be good. I'm no good at designing anything!

It would be nice to have a good idea about the Costa Maya vs. Cozumel stop before we have to make ressies. I guess we can always cancel later if
we need to.

This is what I'm thinking for us (Me, DH, DD-8, DS-11) a stingray excursion at GC, a beach day at Costa Maya/Cozumel, just walking around or maybe the butterfly farm at KW (if I can find it this time), beach day at CC.

Edited to add - we have early dining and wouldn't mind linking up with others. I can find out how to do it if others are interested.

Have a great day!

UMTerp

MNTerp,

I have not used NativeWay before, just did some good research. The RRR (Rays, Reef, Rum Point) excursion was the one that most recommended. Apparently it covers everything (that I'm interested in at least). It sounds like NativeWay only takes at most 24 on each boat compared to the masses that Disney will produce. I suppose all experiences are different but I think we are going to give them a try! I was happy with the reviews I read about them.

Good luck with your decisions :)

Happy New Year Everyone,

I hope everyone had a great holiday with family. We haven't given much thought to excursions. We caught a Travel Channel show about the hauntings in Key West and are going to try to go to some of the places mentioned in the show. I think we're going to take my 6 yr nephew to the aquarium. Our kids loved the aquarium the last time we were there. They got to pet a shark and the staff did a talk about the animals in the touch tank.

We want in on the door tag. I haven't given the door signs much thought. My creative sister offered to give me a hand. We have lime green shirts that I made for the California trip. If someone comes up with a design for this trip, please post it and maybe we can get something going.

Dh came home from work yesterday saying that he read somewhere that the Magic may be going to Nassau instead of Costa Maya. I'm not sure where he read that info. If that is true, we'll be interested in renting a day room so that we can us the pool at Atlantis. Is anyone doing the stingray excursion on Castaway Cay. I was thinking about booking that excursion. Are any adults planning on wearing pirate costumes? I'll check with the other members traveling with us to see if they are interested in linking ressies.

Happy & Healthy New Year Year to all,

Poconoboatniks

PS Where is everyone staying the night before? I'm thinking about the Radisson or the Holiday Inn Express.

Our group is staying at the Radisson the night before (10 of us). For us, just the kids wearing costumes. I have no idea what door tag is. Please fill me in. This is our first cruise but we're on ressies with my FIL who is a CC member so we were told we can sign up on the 8th as well. Works for me!
I need help with Palo and what night to sign our group up for. I heard there is some sort of formula for dining rotation (not set in stone) if you are traveling with small children, which we are. Can anyone help out??

Our TA said she again spoke with her Disney rep who told her that by April there should be no problems with the Cozumel portion of the cruise. I guess we'll have to wait and see. According to the other boards, things are really beginning to improve. Hopefully it will continue. I'm still torn between Playa Mia Beach and Paradise Beach. I can't find any real reviews on the new and improved Playa Mia - only their website. Paradise continues to get great reviews and the $ is much more reasonable.

Hello everyone!

I don't know what the door tag is either (and I've been on three DCL cruises!).

MNrae - I like what I see with Native Way. Do you know if they have life vests for the kids? My DD is not a strong swimmer yet.

We will be staying somewhere near the port for the night before. We've stayed at the Raddison and like it OK. The kids loved the pool but other than that we thought it was just OK. I will be considering other places also as we will have a rental car. Is the Holiday Inn Express any good? My DH is a member of their priority club so we always like to stay there if we can. I guess I need to start thinking about that ressie soon!

I hope we aren't going to Nassau instead of Cozumel! I guess we would do the same thing as Pocono if we end up going there. Otherwise, one of the beaches in Cozumel will be our destination. Will probably just catch a cab to wherever.

No plans for Key West. Do they still have a butterfly farm/area? I wanted to see that last time and missed it? I know we will not be doing the Conch Train! That was really boring and just went around in circles around town.

No, we are not planning to do the stingray excursion at CC. We are planning to do a stingray excursion on GC instead.

Don't know too much about rotations for dinner. Some folks have it down to a science, not me!

Pirate night - we all will be dressing up. We have pirate t-shirts, beads, etc. No costumes, per se.

Does anyone know the schedule for formal, semi-formal, pirate nights for our cruise? Got to start thinking about when to go to Palo for dinner. I know we will want to go for brunch and dinner. We will probably not go for high tea.

Talk to you soon!

UMTerp

MNTerp -
Don't know about the lifevest. I sent an e-mail to them with other questions but not that one. When I've gone snorkling before we always got lifevests. Isn't it routine? I may have to e-mail them again. I'll let you know what I find out.

According to my FIL (and the Passporter book), this is most likely our rotation based on having young children in our party(1-4yo, 3-7yo). Who knows...

Day 1 Sat - At Sea: Welcome Reception; Dinner at Animator's Palate.

Day 2 Sun - Key West 12:30 pm: Character Breakfast; Dinner at Parrot Cay.

Day 3 Mon - At Sea: Dinner at Lumieres. Formal night?

Day 4 Tues - Grand Cayman 7:30 am: Dinner at Palo (?) instead of Animator's Palate.

Day 5 Weds - Cozumel 10:30 am: Dinner Parrot Cay; Pirates of the Carribean Theme Night 9:45 pm.

Day 6 Thurs - At Sea: Dinner at Lumieres.

Day 7 Fri - Castaway Cay 9:00 am; Dinner at Animator's Palate.

Question: Can we also make a ressie for brunch at Palo or is it instead of dinner?

Happy New Year to Everyone,

The holidays are over and final payment day is on the horizon. :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Lil1062 Where are you from in PA? We're in the Poconos.

MNrae, You may be right about your dining rotation. We had that rotation for our first two cruises. Our kids were 5 & 8 on our first cruise. In May, we had the PLAPLAP rotation. Kids were 7 & 10.

Poconoboatniks

Happy New Year!

Thanks MNrae - we've never done a snorkle excursion so I don't have a clue!

Are theme nights consistent with everyone's recent experience? Trying to figure out our Palo night too.

With the online ressies, you can make one dinner and one brunch and one high tea ressie if you like.

I'm not going to sign up for any DCL excursions at this point. I think we will go on our own since we've done this itinerary before.

Enjoy your holiday!

UMTerp

Hi guys!!! Im paid in full too. What a gret feeling ------(until I get my credit card bill) :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Just one important kink to throw into the "apl" theory--we had DS8, DS5, DD2 at the time --they are all a year older now. Anyway we had Lumieres first and there were tons of other kids in there. I have never put much stock in that recipe. The only one thing is for sure is our choices for brunch are Monday or Thursday. I believe we will go for Monday being that the Captains Gala Menu is on Thursday and is a huge meal. May not do dinner as brunch is so awesome. I like to have dinner with my kids.

BTW what happened to the Golden Mickey Menu?

A tag magnet was one that mysteriously appeared on your door and you had to tag another person. The wild Christmas cruisers started that one. In CA we listed all of our staterooms on it so it could be easily passed. We all wondered what happened to it and we found it our last night where it had camped all week on one of the doors of someone that had no idea what to do with it.

For whoever asked-- a door magnet usually contains your picture with DIS very large on the sign and where you are from......Easy to make on your computer out of magnet paper. I did poster board the last time and placed 2 sided sticky magnets on them.

Our plans are KW --hang out and walk around
GC stingrays not DCL
CZ beach club--I too am having a hard time deciding.
CC beach and hang out.

Some one asked about the stingrays on CC versus GC. Don't miss them on GC. I have heard that CC can be rough and not near as good. After all they copied it from GC. Besides of course the financial aspect of CC PRICES.

i WOULD LOVE TO LINK OUR DINING RESSIES WITH ANYONE WISHING TO.

Hey, guys. How do you link to another's ressies? And UMTerp, I see you are in VA, me too! Where abouts? Since this is our first time, we can't make ressies yet. Ya'll don't take all of the good ones!! :earboy2: Does anyone have one thing that they've done before that they just must do again? I need suggestions! And I want in on that t-shirt, door magnet thing. I'm not creative, though I can be very encouraging if needed! :cheer2:

judy - I'll ask DH about linking. We've always had a table to ourselves - don't know anything different! Sounds like our cruise plans are the same as yours. Perhaps we can get together for a stingray excursion and share a cab in Coz.
What do you think of the Nativeway tour? It looks pretty good to me so far!

disney mommy - we are in Fairfax, where are you? They are supposed to save some amount of ressies (50%?) for anyone who doesn't have internet. Just get to the port early so you can get on board early! One thing that we must do again - it must be take a DCL cruise since this will be our 4th! Don't miss the evening shows and try for at least Palo brunch!

Later,

UMTerp

Just wanted to stop in and say hello. We just got back from our Dec trip on Monday night (including the Dec 29th unexpected double dip on the Wonder). We had the later dinner steating which worked out great for us. I can tell you there were lots of kids in all three restaurants every night with staggered age ranges.

We had a great time but DD (Age 10) did end up with the stomach virus the last day - the ship's medical crew was great and the charge was reasonable in my opinion - $185.

We are so excited about this trip now - we were waiting until the 4 day to make sure we liked crusing. I booked airline tickets out of Dulles yesterday - now I need to find a hotel near the port for the night and start planning my excursions. Technically I can book starting the 8th but I need to pay off the on-baord charges from the Dec cruise first - so it will probably be at least next week.

I also read that the Magic was stopping in Nassau for a period of time due to hurricane Wilma damage. We just did the dolphion swim in Nassau and had a blast (I booked the swim with the company directly since Disney only offers the encounter). By the time we sail Cozumel may be a port again. I am not sure what I would do if we stopped in Nassau again.

I am also in Northern Virginia - the Centerville/Clifton area - can you tell it is Fairfax County Spring break that week.

Hey everyone----
UMTerp- I think we can still have own tables if you wish but can have a section of the dining room where if we get enough people to link we can still visit and have friendly neighbors at meals. I think that is what I heard from some of the other cruisers that they did. Because some of our traveling parties are so large they could not sit us together so they would arragne the table assignments so that we are on the same rotation in close proximity. I know on the Christmas cruise they even allowed some of the kids from the DIS group to have their own table (older kids) next to the adults. If noone wants to do it that is fine too. The important thing is our DIS itinerary.

My one "have to repeat excursion" on the western would be stingray city in GC. I also love walking along Duval street in KW after dinner when you have dropped the kids of at kids club. It is a great place to enjoy the sights and have a drink off the boat. And I guess I woul consider the beach club break in COZ a must do also.

Alright all you Pennsylvanians and Virginians---I feel left out. I am the only crazy Floridian. :cheer2:

If you guys have a chance check out www.disshop.com. They used to have all kinds of merchandise with the DIS logo. I was thinking of maybe getting my lime green tshirts there. WAIT I forgot we have a few new people. Usually the day you get on the boat you wear lime green tshirts so we are all easily recognizable to one another. Some cruisers use lime green lanyards or pins so that they can recognize each other all week long, Usually a lime green mickey head. Maybe I will work on that end of things for all of us. Would that be Okay?

I don't want to be a thread hog but as I have it here is our group:
windermerejudy (FL) self, DH, DS9,DS6, DD3, my mom=6 Cabin 6540/6541
UMTerp (VA) self, DH, DS11, DD8 =4

Obviously the bottom half of these people have not been around for awhile so we aren't sure if their plans have changed or not. If you have further details about your party I will fill them in. This brings us to 70 if everyone is still in. Please also state your dining rotation if possible. We have 92 days until we leave so we need to get organized. I will have to review the thread and see if I missed any of the more recent additions.

Judy

We are in cabin 6076 (Same as what we had on the wonder last week).

We have the later dining rotation.
