Here is our trip report from the April 3-7 cruise. First of all DM and I were up at 4AM so we could to the airport. I think next time we will go a day or so early. The flights down were fine and uneventful. We decided not to check DM's wheelchair as luggage as she would need it at the port. It was nice not having to worry about getting our own luggage along with pushing a wheelchair. DM was very nervous :confused3 about traveling since it was the first trip since she experienced sudden cardiac arrest in October and had to have a pacemaker/defibrilator put in. It was also her first cruise. We boarded quickly and went for the buffet lunch. DM was very impressed with our stateroom (7136) and everything about the cruise. After the safety drill which CMs pushed DM to, and the sail away party we stayed in the room until it was time for dinner as DM had to take meds she missed due to travelling. I had to visit Guest Services to chek on the distilled water that had been ordered for DM's CPAP machine. The young lady was super. She ended up making several calls as the medical department couldn't find the order. (I had e-mailed DCL in January to see if we needed to bring our own and they had said it would be in our stateroom.)I put our lime greem mickey head on the door but our room was very difficult to see. Besides the mickey head disappeared after the second day and reapperared on another door kitty corner from us! We had APTT rotation. We had Rollie and Natalia as servers. Both were very nice but Natalia went way beyond what we expected of her. In fact we saw more of her than we did Rollie as he seemed to be busier with the tables with kids and it was just the 2 of us at our table. I was a little disappointed that we didn't get to have others at our table. It was fun getting to know others on my last cruise. DM couldn't believe the food choices, how good everything was, or the service we received. Natalia even insisted on pushing the wheelchair out of the restaurant each evening. The distillled water was in our room after dinner.
Monday Morning I went up to the buffet and brought breakfast back so we could eat on the veranda. We stayed on the ship for a while then headed to Nassau for some shopping. Nassau is NOT wheelchair accessible. There are steps going up into almost every store and most restrooms in the restaurants are upstairs. We managed to spend a few hours (and money)within walking distance of the ship. After returning to the ship at about 4 we grabbed a late lunch of pizza and chicken tenders and I went swimming while DM wrote out her postcards. We explored the ship for a while and did mor shopping on board. The only problems we had with the wheelchair was getting on or off the outer decks. There were pretty high bumps at the doorways. I almost dumped DM out a couple of times! There was usually a CM or another cruiser who would rush to assist as the chair is one of the larger ones.
I guess that enough for now. DM had a fabulous time and has been bitten by the Disny Bug and wants to go again! :wave2:

That will be us 10 weeks from today!
What did you think of the live shows and Pirate Night?
How did you manage CC day with the wheelchair?

Melanie

These may be silly questions but why do you decorate the door, anything significant about a lime green Mickey, and if I do end up decorating, just anything taped up will do?

Thanks for the report, I love all the information I'm getting to prepare for for my first Disney cruise in September!

The green mickey heads are supossed to let other people who use these boards know when other Disers are on board. You can get the green mickey heads at home deopt in the paint department. I just put a piece of magnet on the back. A lot of oter people decorate their doors to make them easier to see. Especially if they have kids.

Getting around CC in the wheelchair was not easy. We tried one of the beach wheelchairs with the big wheels for the sand but ending up going back and getting DM's regular chair as she felt like was being tipped backwards. The regular chair did okay on the path. I didn't try on the sand. :daisy:
