April 24, 2004 Magic

We're a Ron Jon's also! We have a Budget rental car and plan to follow CB4U's plan, have DH drop off my DSs and Meat port, take the shuttle back. I can hardly wait.

Sounds like the acution is coming along really well. Good job! Wow that's a lot of work. You are going to need this vacation.

The people on the 5/1 dis meet board already had some type of association with the 5/8 folks, so as soon as I asked about passsing the banner to them they knew they would pass it on to the next group. I'm so glad they are willing to do this. They are quite excited about the whole thing, too.

Have a great day everyone!

Went shopping today to pick up a few cruise related items - one of which was postcards. Well.....I found something to give to fellow DISers that I couldn't resist. They will serve the same function as postcards but I thought they would be appreciated more than a postcard from St. Thomas with Jumbo the Elephant on it. Did all of you out there know that St. Thomas (Ontario) is famous for Jumbo the circus elephant from Barnium and Bally's Circus was killed her by a train? Just a little trivia. Don't worry, you won't be tested on this detail.

Is Jumbo buried in Woodlawn Cemetery here in the Chicago area? There are a lot of circus animals from a train accident buried in the same cemetery as my father and grandparents.

As far as postcards, I have 15, not every DISer on our cruise responded that they are attending. Am I correct or did I miss something?

Jumbo was the only animal killed here when the circus was here. He was crossing the tracks rather slowly I guess. Or perhaps the train operator just didn't see him. I have no idea where they buried him but I don't think his remains are here in St. T.

Believe this or not, I grew up near Tufts University in Massachusetts....there was an exhibit in one of the University's halls on Jumbo the Elephant. Jumbo is/was the school's mascot. I remember reading all about the train accident. There was even a huge likeness of Jumbo. There were many pictures as well. There was a fire in the hall that destoyed the entire exhibit a while back. But Jumbo the Elephant is a part of my past...Kim, I knew we had a lot in common!!:hyper:

Plutojudy,
Maybe I have it incorrect, I thought that Denverval made a count of everyone back on pg 15, and I counted 18 there including us, and that those listed were planning to attend the meet.

Denverval, Does that mean everyone you put down is coming to our meet? Please clarify for us.

Guess some of us earlybirds will be able to get aquainted in the terminal since so many seem to be arriving in the am.

Off to Target to get some things on my list that you all have mentioned!

:wave2:

15 of the 18 are folks who are chatting on this Cruise Meets thread, the other 3 are frequent chatters on other threads, and who've been invited over here, but haven't said anything on this one. I'm still not sure who all is coming, but I'll be there! Excited to see the banner Tandy made!

I dont know if anyone has me down as coming since i am new but i will be there! Just thought i would let you know so you can have an accurate head count::MinnieMo

CB4U

That is just too funny. I cannot actually believe that others in the BIG world have actually heard of Jumbo the elephant.

Does this mean that you all want postcards with a large elephant on them or can I bring the suprise cards that I felt were just as appropriate to the Dis Meet?

The statue of Jumbo is actually lifesize and he is atop the hill that leads into St. Thomas. It was erected about 15 years ago and it was really funny because the base coat of paint they had on him was PINK. St. Thomas was the laughing stock of southwestern Ontario for about two weeks. We made the Detroit News and the Toronto news to name a few. He was then painted an elephant grey to match his original colour.

Looking forward to meeting everyone soon. We had sunshine:sunny: here today. Still just above 0C. Can't wait to get to some warmth.

Kim:wave2:

Hi Kim,

I'll take one of your surprise postcards!

Weather has improved here as well. It was warmer and sunny today.

Can't wait to meet everyone. Before you know it, we'll be on board.

Tandy's idea on the "DIS" Banner is an awesome idea. Looks like it is catching on with the cruises following ours. Good job Tandy.

:sunny

Kim,
A surprise card is fine, I'm bringing pictures of our hometown beach that my husband picked up (2 different pictures).
See you all soon!

I love surprises, Kim! Denver and the Rockies are too pretty to just choose one card, so I've got a whole bunch of different scenes. :teeth:

DenverVal,

I couldn't agree with you more. The rockies are absolutely beautiful. Next to the Disney Cruise, a trip to Colorado is always one of our favourites.

My DH and I often comment on how if we could just pack up and move it would be to Denver because it is so awesome.

And that's why I live here! :p I grew up in California, moved here for a summer job, and never went back. I love the seasons. You really appreciate spring after a long winter. Y'all have the Canadian Rockies, though, and they are SO beautiful! We took a trip up to Radium Hot Springs and toured the national parks, and were amazed at how different the mountains looked from ours. The trip up Athabasca Glacier was the highlight of our trip, and everybody we met was so nice! :D

I love the Colorado Rockies! We used to go to a dude ranch in Allenspark, near Rocky Mountain National Park. Our boss has a house in Breckenridge we have used several times.
I read Stephen White's books because they take place in Colorado.

It's getting so close I can feel it. I see some of yous guys are staying at RonJons, but is anyone doing the MCO/Hyatt and then the DCL Bus, like us?

We are at the MCO Hyatt Thurseday night, then on to Ron Jon's Friday, the DCL!!! I can't believe in 2 weeks we'll be in Florida. SOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooo cool.

We won't see you at the Hyatt, but we'll get it all warmed up for you:D

Tandy

The Canadian Rockies - the American Rockies - We who live in flat, flat southwestern Ontario love them both (especially for skiing). Lately we have been going to the Canadian Rockies but if our dollar ever reaches the US Dollar we will once again be to the American Rockies.

Our family is flying in on the Friday night and we are staying at the Amerisuites. We then have a towncar taking us to the CRUISE. Should arrive around 10:30 AM.

Hope everyone has a Happy Easter and don't eat too much chocolate!!!

Kim

Is there such a thing as too much chocolate??

We're flying in the night before, renting a car for the day so we can go to Downtown Disney, bunking at the Hawthorn Suites, and returning to the airport to catch the DCL bus to the port. What time should we get to the airport? I'm trying to convince DH that we should try the Ohana dinner at the Polynesian, but so far he's not going for it.

I'm so excited! I plan to start packing this weekend (we won't be needing those shorts here) to avoid the horror of last minute packing. I get so stressed that my family avoids me. This way, maybe we can take in a Rockies game before we go! :hyper:
