April 23, 2005 Western

We are driving down from New Jersey - leaving Thursday after school. Believe it or not we drove about 1 1/2 years ago and the kids (DD,9 DS, 6) decided they wanted to drive again. They loved it. I on the other hand may go crazy, but hey, I'm going on a Disney Cruise when we get to Florida - I'll be fine.
We also have friends in North Carolina who we will be visiting on the way home - they just had their first baby - so that's part of the reason for driving.

Can't wait to meet everyone!

We are flying in on Friday afternoon out of Islip (Long Island) on Southwest. Flight arrives in Orlando around 4:30pm -- then it is on to the Radisson.

jurdgubben,

You aren't the only non parents! Have you ever been on DCL?? My friend and are the same ages and we love it! But we love anything Disney.

PS everyone.. Weather is GORGEOUS this week! Let's hope it holds out. My past 3 cruises have ben COLD!

disneygatorfan,

Good to know. My husband and I are also huge fans but haven't been on a Disney cruise yet.

Has anyone on this thread done the Western before?? I have only done the Eastern. I am wondering what sort of stuff there is to do on your own. I am thinking either Paradise Beach or Mr Sancho's in Cozumel, and maybe the 7 mile Beach in Grand Cayman.. Anyone else have any ideas on things to do... We are still clueless on Key West.

Shelly...we did the Western 2 years ago and we LOVED Mr Sanchos Beach...it was inexpensive to get to, no admission charge, the food and drinks were great (and well priced at that time). We really had fun. On Grand Cayman we did Stingray City but the family we traveled with did 7 Mile Beach and liked it so much that we are all planning on going there this time. In Key West we rented Jet Skis and had a blast! Hope that helps.

Jill,

Where do you go to rent Jet Skis in Key west? And about how much does it run??

Wow, I feel like a cruising newbie with this Western! :)

Ok all, I have a great story. Today I'm shopping for all my last minute things, and I decide to go to my local Target (or Tarz eee for you Oprah fans lol). Anyway, I'm down the kids shoe aisle, and I hear this lady saying to her child, "Those are really cute, but your not going to be able to wear them on the excursions." So of course, this peaks my interest. So nosey person that I am, I walk around to the aisle, and I say. "Did you say excursion?" she says "yes," but looks at me like I'm loopy. I asked her if she was going on a cruise and she said yes. I asked when she was leaving an she said 2 weeks from today. I said that I was going on a cruise 2 weeks from today as well. "What cruise line are you going on?" I asked. "Disney" she said. Okay, so we're both laughing hysterical, saying to each other, what are the odds of me overhearing her conversation, and us ending up on the same cruise. She also has only 1 child, a daughter, whose also 9 and in 4th grade so that made it all the more unusual. So of course we stood talking and blocking the shoe aisle in Target for about 25 minutes. She ends up living a couple of towns over. She had a bunch of questions, and I gave her my number so that the kids can maybe meeting for a quick lunch next weekend if we have time. Her and her daughter were so excited to actually know someone before they got on the boat. It just made my hectic day, that much nicer, to be able to give someone who is going on their first disney cruise some pointers. I told her about the boards and hopefully she'll call me if she wants to come on. Just wanted to share that with you all. Hope to meet ALL of you real soon! bye for now, Linda

How did that song go...? Oh yeah, "It's a small world after all... " :rotfl:

Seriously, how random is that?

That's pretty funny.. I wonder what the odds are to run into someone like that. You might want to think about playing bingo! :)

Less than two weeks now! How am I supposed to work for two more weeks!

FYI, anyone who is visiting the parks before or after.. you HAVE to do Soarin' at Epcot, it's awesome. It's not officially open, but they are doing sneak previews for a few hours each day. Just walk toward the restrooms behind Imagination, and you will see the cast entrance to Soarin. Just go and see if there is a CM there, and ask if they are open!

Can't wait to be cruising with Mickey. I have been doing research like crazy, and the Western ports are sounding pretty fun. I am a Eastern cruise girl at heart, but who knows, maybe the western will win me over!

That is really funny -- Still need some last minute clothes. Was planning on the outlets this weekend but -- baseball, lacrosse and grades are due this week so I am too busy. I will have to make time during the week. Can't believe it is less than 2 weeks away!

We are spending the Saturday and Sunday following the cruise at the Wilderness Lodge. I wasn’t sure what to do about the parks. I didn’t realize that they were previewing Soarin’. It would be nice to be able to check that out. Also, we love the new Turtle Talk with Crush in the Living Seas. Hmmm….. :scratchin

Wow! Less than 2 weeks to go!

I'm working on the list. I just got back from NJ for a friend's wedding so I'm trying to get caught up with everything else. I also have DD's 1st Birthday party Saturday. Besides sending out the invites, I haven't done anything for it :(

Hopefully, I'll have the list done this afternoon! If anyone wants to add anything let me know :)

OK, I only got through to page 16 of our thread but I wanted to start getting the list going so I don't have to type so much at one time :) With my luck I'll get everything in, hit submit and the computer will die! :teeth: Please let me know if I have anything wrong. I apologize if I do.
