Only travelling solo for the cruise portion as the parents won't get on a ship to save their lives.

We're hoping Shades of Green will be okay. Can't beat the cost on property unless you stay in the All Stars. And they're too small of rooms.

Watching the weather and wondering if there will be a disney world come next spring. Geez poor folks. And a friend of my mother's who lives in Florida was just telling her a month ago...we never get hurricanes in this part of florida! Only had four now?

A quick correction: its cmaasfamily (two A's, one S - not the unfortunate other way around!)

We're in Alpharetta, GA. So, along with Marietta and Dacula the northern 'burbs of Atlanta are represented.

The C in cmaasfamily is Craig - DH
M=Mindy - DW
A=Alison - DD 12
A=Annie - DD 4.

Second time on DCL. First was a last minute impluse, this one was planned WAY in advance. Actually it was booked as a backup in case we couldn't go on the 10 Christmas cruise and as it turns out we can't so we're definately aboard in April.

The girls don't know yet. DD12 has started getting really obsurce clues and if she doesn't have it figured soon we'll tell her.

Cmaasfamily - I should have know it was maas as I am of dutch heritage and the double "a" is a common spelling in dutch names.

Stacey, I understand about your folks not wanting to get onto a ship. My folks went with us last year and my mom was pretty sick and miserable most of the time. They have also cruised with other lines, two or three times and she is always sick no matter what she remedies she tried. I would have loved to have them join us this time but she flat out refused!

On our other Disney Cruise, everyone brought postcards from their home area. We put whatever information on the back that we wanted to share...real names, addresses, DIS name, and email. We met after the drill but before the sail away party up by Scoops. It was a great way to remember who everyone was and a chance for the kids to meet each other prior to going to the lab or club.

Yes you are correct! My sister Karen and her family were going to join us as well...but my sister just found out she is pregnant. She will be almost 8 months pregnant at cruise time which of course, is well past the 24 week DCL rule. We are trying to talk them into letting us take my niece and nephew but it does not look like they will be joining us. It breaks my heart because the children have been watching the DVD and talking about going for quite some time now! I guess they will have to wait until Spring Break Cruise 2007

Kathy, That's great news about your sister! I'm sorry that her 2 children won't be able to go. That would be a nice "break" for her. She won't get much chance to rest for quite some time. Have you put it to her that way?!!!

Valli, I think the postcards is a great idea! About how many did you do last time? Did you bring an extra few cards just in case?

Is everyone still doing the "green Mickeys" or has Home Depot gotten wise to us?!!

Laura, I can't remember exactly how many cards I did - I think about 10. We had about 8 or so DIS'ers and I did bring a couple of extras. I just printed address lables with my info on it and stuck them on the back of the cards.

I've been watching Mt. St. Helens on the internet today. 16 earthquakes yesterday - they think she may decide to blow again. We're about 150 miles away but we've still got ash on the ground from the 1980 eruption.

YIKES! I remember when Mt. St Helens erupted - such devastation. You STILL have ash from that eruption?

I had our noon news on here and they were just talking about how the scientists are seeing a change and getting concerned. Your family wouldn't have to "evacuate" where you're at, would you? We'll keep you in our thoughts - stay safe.

We're far enough away that, if anything, we'd just get a little ash fall out. Believe me I have no plans to go hiking on St. Helens any time soon (All access to the Mt. is closed right now anyway)

My DH was in high school the first time around and made extra $$ shoveling ash off of roofs. There were 6-8" of the stuff on the ground in places. There are places along the main highways were you can still see the light grey ash in the median and on the shoulder of the road.

That's the one I've been looking at lately.

I was at lunch with a client last week and we were talking about Florida and all of the hurricane's. We decided that it's the price you pay to live in paradise....we on the other hand have virtually no natural disasters - no hurricanes, tornados, earthquakes (usually) - nobody in their right mind would live here if we did

Sounds like Florida can begin cleanup. NO MORE STORMS BREWING - let's hope it stays that way! Here in metro Atlanta, we again have lots of flooding, trees down, power outages - and we don't even live in Paradise!!!

Hi again--regarding spring break in GA, at least in metro- Atlanta, most if not all of the public schools have the same spring break, which covers, what, like 25-30 counties and municipalities or so. My theory is that the private schools schedule their breaks differently so that they won't have to vacation with us "riff-raff". Yup, like all the Snellville-ians would be bumping into the West Paces Ferry crowd at St. Kitts and Anguila (the Goergia posters will get the local references).

My hotel in the Jax area on the way down are a simple but clean and free breakfast Fairfield Inn ,
FAIRFIELD INN ORANGE PARK FL
450 ELDRIDGE AVE, ORANGE PARK FL 32073 which is actually off I-295 (a semi-beltway/bypass convenient for skipping downtown when coming from Eastbound I-10 to southbound I-95). Not the least expensive I am sure at about $70, but meets standards and the breakfast is part of the deal. Have also stayed at a Marriott Courtyard, Butler Boulevard, at 4670 LENOIR AVENUE SOUTH Jacksonville, FL 32216 . That's off I-95, might have even been a bit less expensive, but w/o breakfast. But it does have a Cracker Barrell next door for a good stick to your ribs country breakfast and all the cholesterol you can handle. At least until Pluto's opens.

Mostly ATL to Jax is about all the driving I want to attempt after work and ATL traffic dies down, 350 miles, then its an easy saturday a.m. drive for boarding the magic or the wonder.

how true, how true! Unfortunately, the area where we live is becoming more and more "West Paces Ferry"-ish every day

I did some work over in Snellville last year and was really impressed with the area. I think the public school system there is top notch! I know traffic's no picnic, but it's the same over on the west side now too

I remember the one in 1980. We had just moved to Fort Lewis a few months prior. What a welcome to Washington State that was. I was only about 6 but still remember a lot from that day, and I do believe we still have some ash from the sidewalks put away somewhere. Our Dodge truck literally bit the dust because of the ash getting into it.

Actually the ash cougar we bought for my grandmother a couple years later is sitting on my desk as I type this. It's eerie thinking this could happen again. Definately stay away until things settle. She may just be clearing her throat but you never know!

Think I've seen it all..volcanic eruption in WA, Hurricane in HI, Earthquakes in CA, Tornado in KS, 100 yr Flood in KS. Not to mention dust bowl and droughts too! At least we're not in WA right now so no one came blame us

For those who are flying to get to Orlando, a couple of questions?

Do you already have your flights booked? I have been checking prices and there do not seem to be anything reasonable available. Is it too soon? I am afraid to wait too long, since Grand Rapids is a smaller airport and it is spring break.

Do you think it is important to come in on Friday?
The plan is to fly in Friday since the girls will already be out of school and stay overnight by the airport. Probably will priceline unless I have enough Hyatt points for a freebie. I don't want to have to worry about flight delays making me miss the Magic!

I booked my flights as soon as I could - 335 days out. We're using points to upgrade and the availability to do that goes really fast. I usually wait until about 90 days out otherwise. Just depends on where your flying from.

We came in a day early last time (Friday)- didn't get in to the airport until around 11 p.m. and that along with the towncar coming in at 9 a.m. on Sat. to pick us up made for a short night. Esp. since we were on Pacific Time

I think unless you use Disney to arrange your airfare - you better off being safe and coming a day early. Just in case there are any delays... Your right - wouldn't want to miss the Magic!

This time we're coming down on Wed. and spending a few days at Universal first. I can't wait to ride Mummy Returns!

Definately get in the night before. Things happen, planes break down, connections are missed. Stress ensues trying to make the ship. Not a good way to start a cruise. I think looking through the boards you'll find enough expierences to consider arriving the day before.

Besides...you can meet your fellow cruisers ahead of time
