good morning everyone can you believe it one more month and we'll all be on the MAGIC!!!

I am starting to think about what to bring on this cruise maybe we should start a list for the people who have never cruised before to help them out and help out the older veterans who might have forgoten somethings.

I always bring...ginger pills for sea sickens:sick: (lets just hope we have calm seas :goodvibes ) a shoe organizer to hold sunglasses, cameras, also good for bathroom goodies too toothpaste, sunscreen, etc. I always like to bring my own travel clock too....

Wondering about the changes in bringing water/wine on board and dining changes. Just when you think you know some thing, it changes. I sure hope we can bring the drinks on board.

Dis2cruise-great idea on the packing tips. My lists are long already, but any other insight would be welcome. Thanks

Yeah I am wondering too about the water/wine on board too hoping the softcooler thing isn't creamed.

I never booked palo not really interested so i guess the dining rotating thing doesn't really bother us too much. but I do hope you all get the dining that you want
so your palo night is very memorable:wizard:

We have Palo on Sunday Night, and requested APL rotation. Thought is would be great for first dinner to be Animators and Formal in Lumiere's. Now looking at the new rotations and corresponding times I'm not sure which would be best. Thanks for the good wishes-I'm sure it will all be magical. Do really want to bring water, ginger ale and wine, wine, wine on board, hopefully we will here something good today.

Hey everyone!

I don't know if you guys have been keeping tabs on the "Helpful Information for You" thread, but apparently things are changing big time in terms of what can be brought. The thread is at http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1520273&referrerid=107127. Someone's asked and I'm awaiting clarification but it sure sounds like you can't bring cases of water on board and maybe not even liquor now. Bummer! Is that how you guys are reading this too?

In the cruise line documents the official policy is "Personal Coolers may not be brought onboard except for those needed for medications, baby food, or items related to a dietary constraint" Also says "Coolers with personal items such as soda or snacks may not be brought onboard."
I know that does not address the water question.
This has always been the case people still bring it on but if they are enforcing it now is the question.
Just like you are not suppose to order food from room service and bring it off the ship or on excursions.
It will be interesting to hear what recent cruises have to say.

My family TECHJPM is staying in 2009. We will be attending Fishlips, and
also possible participating in Yankee Swap. We will be doing the Fish Extender.

Please remove my brother in law from the Yankee Swap.
They are supposed to be participating in the Fish Extender.

Awesome ideas. I've got to find me one of those shoe organizers. Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated!!

Attention Fish Extender Participants: Not everyone has given ( or maybe you haven't gotten the number due to GTY...) their cabin number to Joan for the spread sheet. Since I am off for the next 6 days, I am in the process of organizing my little gifts for the fish extenders and realized I have no idea where I am delivering some to!

PACKING TIPS TO SHARE:

Over the door shoe holder thingy: BEST thing to bring HANDS DOWN! We put everything in this...batteries, battery chargers, jewelry, sunglasses, toothpaste, brushes, blowdryer (I am partial to my own!), medicines etc

2nd valuable thing to bring: Plastic ziploc bags...quart or gallon size...oh my goodness...so many uses. Put sunblock in so it doesn't spill/leak into bag..put navigators in so they don't get wet in the pool bag..protect souvenirs that I have collected (navigators, menus, postcards etc)...put left overs from room service for another time (I order cheese plate every day and put left over crackers for next time...or I order choc chip cookies from room service to keep for a snack at a later time)..put camera in so it doesn't get wet in the pool/beach bag....carry shells home from the beach..etc...the list goes on!

3rd Valuable thing to bring: HIGHLIGHTERS! Each night before bed, I will comb through the next day's navigator and I highlight things I want to do the next day! Don't want to miss out on any of the magic!

Packing Tips to share:

I packed my daughter's complete outfits...top, bottom, underwear, socks, matching hair accessory etc in a ziploc bag...I fold them in, press out all the air, zip, unzip a hair to let out more air, close zipper and pack it. They are really flat, like those vacuum bags that they advertise on tv to store sweaters and blankets at home..and as an added bonus, my daughter or my husband can just pick a bag out in the morning and everything is coordinated and ready to go without question!

I don't iron before we go..I send out my linen blouses, husbands dress pants etc..to the ships laundry department for pressing the first day..they come back pressed WAY better than I could ever do and even better than our local dry cleaner in my opinion...besides even if I did iron, the packing and the traveling always ends up making it look like I didn't iron anyway...the prices were reasonable since they are not washing, just pressing. Somewhere on here are prices for it. I think for like 8 or 10 items pressed may have been 16 dollars or something like that. Very reasonable!

Hope these tips help someone! I can't even take credit for them. I got them here on the DIS. Actually, I ended up printing out the best tips thread and read them in bed the weeks prior and highlighted (there's that highlighter again!) the ones I wanted to remember.

I am going to start packing this weekend too. Yeah! As I type this, we are exactly one month away from sailing away!

Have a good night!
Michelle

Suction cup hooks to put in the bathroom for your bathing suits. There is a clothes line going across the tub, but we prefer the hooks better. We do that at home with our suits in the summer as well.

i also bring extra hangers like the 0nes from kohls or jcpenney's i know probably the cabin stuart would get me extra ones but i am a hanger snob:rotfl: most of my clothes gets hung up:goodvibes

btw Michelle...good point about the ziplock bags I just added them to my list:thumbsup2

Does any one know how much it costs to get your hair braided on the ship? I have heard that it is really cheap to get done in Mexico (15.00 for half head). I didn't know if I should try to get it done right away on the boat or wait it out for someone in Mexico. That brings me to another question. Is there someone who sits on the beach and does this or how do I find someone?
Thanks everyone,
Angie:hippie:

My daughters have had their hair braided both on the ship and in ports. When they were younger, that was always their favorite "souvenir" from a cruise. It's actually about the same cost to have it done on the ship or on an island, the going rate is generally a "buck a braid".

Couple things to rememebr - if she wants to have carefree hair on the trip, have it done right away. But if you are planning on formal family portraits and would rather she not have her hair in braids for that, consider that when you decide which day to have it done. If she wants it to be looking really great to go home, wait and have it done on Castaway Cay. Swimming, sleeeping, wind, etc. all take a toll on the braids and they can get "fuzzy" after a few days. You can smooth them down and capture stray hairs with hair gel or hair spray. The coarser the hair is, the better the cornrows will stay in. You need to make an appointmentto have it done on the ship, I think they only do it on sea days, they set up in the pool area. On CC, you go to the hairbraiding station in the morning and you either sit right down then or they give you a time to return. There are a lot of braiders on CC, so you never wait too long. If I remember correctly, it was closer to $30.00 to have the "headband style" done with beads. I don't ever recall having braids done for $15.00, even years ago.

In Cozumel there are "hair braiders" set up right when you get off the ship. Bring your own comb if you decide to do it there (or on any island). Be specific about HOW MANY braids she will get, or what the total cost will be before she begins. Sometimes they will show you a photo of a style (half head or "headband" style) but they don't tell you that they are going to make the braids really, really tiny so it ends up costing you a fortune. I learned the hard way once so after that I was clear that we did not want tiny braids, and that I would pay XXX for that style. Try to settle on a price once you decide on a style, generally you can bargain with them, and make sure that the cost of the beads is included in the agreed-upon price. By the way, it is expected that you'll tip also. On the ship or on CC they'll tell you the price before they begin, and you charge it to your KTTW card.

When it's time to take them out, saturate her hair with a lot of cheap conditioner, like Suave or a store brand (the cheaper brands have more oils in them). Let it sit on her head for about 10 minutes then you can actually slide the elastics right off, and take the braids out very easily with your fingers. SO much easier than trying to comb them out / cut off the elastics.

Couple of other things that are good to have:

A nightlight - especially if you're in an inside cabin

A "glow in the dark" clock. The stateroom clock can't be seen in the dark

A power strip to plug in ipods, hairdryers, recharge camera batteries, etc

Downy Wrinkle Spray - they make a travel size one

Hand sanitizer / baby wipes

Angie: We had our dd's hair done in the headband style and it is right around 30 dollars as MassDislover said. Can't remember if that was before tip or after though. Massdislover's tips regarding hair and formal night is a great one. We waited until later in our cruise to do it for that reason. I too have heard about the islands doing smaller braids to make more money. I think the cleanliness on the boat or on CC beats what is done on the islands...standards being met and kept kind of thing. My daughter loved it. She plays on doing it again! Hairbraiding tip: Decide when you want to do it and make a ressie on board asap. We waited because she wasn't sure and we did not have many choices that weren't during a show or our dinner etc.

The board is back to not giving me email notifications. Our thread has been slower lately, but dead! Almost at 2000 posts! Yeah!

Nite

Thanks for the packing tips, I have to agree on the ziploc bags. I always pack like this and it keeps the clothes protected from leaking fluids in anyone's luggage.

It seems the latest I can find about bringing beverages is that you have to carry it on and it has to be in approved carry on size and no coolers. This was from Shirley's thread.

One more month:banana:

Hey guys!!! 29 days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm getting so excited!!! I got most of my packing list from some thread or list that I'd seen somewhere on the DIS. Wish I could point you towards it but the last time I checked the search wasn't working again. Some of my favorite tips from wherever I got them from are these (and don't forget that I'm a cruising newbie so I don't really know what I'm talking about).... don't bring too many t-shirts becuase you'll be buying some for souvenirs, trashbags for wet clothes, bring several single load amounts of laundry soap in baggies or bring tablets as it's expensive onboard, dry eraser board or paper for your family to leave messages in the room, empty dufffle bag for dirty laundry, bring your own meds as seeing the doctor for anything is like about $100, bring a padded mailing envelope for keeping photos, navigators, etc. from getting all bent up. Okay, so that's my contribution to the packing list ideas, for whatever it's worth.

Oh, and I have a question about suitcases and/or carryon luggage. I'm still hoping to bring some liquor in carryon luggage (trying to save a bit of money). But I almost never fly anywhere -- and we're driving down to the cruise since we're only a few hours away -- so I don't keep up on the latest regulations. How big can the carryon bag be? I have a suitcase that I used to use for business trips that I'd carry on and it'd fit in the bin above the seats.... can I use that? But we're limited to one carryon each, right? So one of my kids can bring the suitcase becuase I'll have my laptop backpack, right? I mean, we get one carryon and one larger suitcase each, right?

Too wierd feeling talking about airlines and oceans while I'm watching Lost. I'm finally up to this season. I'm listening to the Past, Present, Future episode now. The one that prepared all the newbies for the first episode of the season. It's nice to get a bit of a recap :rotfl:

Anyone gotten their paperwork from Disney in re this cruise? A buddy of mine that's going in early April got her paperwork so I'm expecting to see something in the next week or so'ish.

Okay... back to lost and finding Joan's message about Tyler's graphic. I'm gonna get that done today .... I hope :rotfl2:
