April 19, 2008 - Western - VERY Early Roll Call - Anyone??!!

Hypermommy - I think which days we "fish gift" depends on how many of us are particating. If we have 7 rooms participating then we can each take one day, so that every day we'll have a little surprise waiting for us. Or we can wing it and always be surprised!

As far as the Yankee Swap - I would be in for the Swap part, but am dead set agaist the Yankee part. I just don't like the idea of potentially having someones feelings hurt if their gift is exchanged for another more appealing gift. JMO.

Now, if we did an intentional white elephant type thing where everyone brings the tackiest disney/cruise object they can lay hands on...

As Tinkified said: its a group decision - just giving my 2cents.

I am definitely in for fish gifts. I may or may not participate in other swaps.

I vote for winging it becuase I don't want to schedule myself to do something and then be wanting to do something else. Of course, if we're signing up for a day instead of a specific time, then I'd have all day and could definitely find time at some point. Whatever the group decides is good with me.

For what it's worth... we used to have these all the time at the office where I used to work. And there was this bottle of Chaps cologne that was always used in the gift exchange. In fact, it was a running joke kind of thing as to who would get stuck with the Chaps. So of course, I got stuck with it one time. And it stayed in my desk drawer waiting for the next exchange. The next time one came around I was determined to get rid of the Chaps. So I found a big box and stuffed it full of newspaper and laid the Chaps giftbox (yes, it was one of those gift set things that you see at Christmastime) on top. Then I wrapped it up just as pretty as I could. The person that got #1 in our exchange loved the big pretty box, but was not at all happy when she saw what was inside. In fact, it became a kind of a running joke at the office about how upset she was and how badly she acted about it. You would think an adult would act more mature about things, but sometimes......

I said all that to say this.... if it were just adults participating, then I'd say they should get over it and be mature about it. But we're going to have kids playing too and I'd hate to see any of the babies get their little hearts broken (and it doesn't matter how old the babies are, they're still babies to me... go figure). So I like the idea of getting the tackiest or silliest or funniest Disney and/or cruise related gift possible and using that. And all of us parents will have to make sure our kids understand that the sillier or tackier the gift, the better. It'd still be a great way to get to know everyone, IMO.

Okay, I was going to try not to post again until someone else had a chance to do so (becuase I'm wanting to give you guys a break from my long-windedness -- too late, I know). But I had to. I just found the 2nd most fun thread on this board (ours, of course, being the first). It's an I Spy type of game with pictures from the cruise. I'm loving all the pictures and thought someone else might enjoy it too. http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1598087&page=30

OK, just got back from Mohegan. Had fun, but came home $100 down. Not too bad. DH & I played for hours and had a good time. :thumbsup2

Oh, I haven't planned anything ... I just answer a lot of emails. I mean, I could help or organize any of these events that have been discussed if someone needs the help but I don't want to step on the toes of the persons with the actual ideas.

Please forgive this NYer...GO GIANTS! Totally psyched!

Ant: I see you are CBR frequent flyers...so I take it you would recommmend it? We are doing a Dec 08 trip and staying there. It will be our first time there. We have done Movies, POP and CSR. We loved CSR's pool. I am/was considering changing back to CSR but I guess the CBR pool refurb is worth trying it out right?

Do we have a number of how many of us (who we know about!) DISers are going to be on the cruise? How many individuals and how many families....trying to plan some things I am making to share!

Michelle

Could I please have the spreadsheet link also...thanks!
By the way if I have it bookmarked and updates and changes have been made, will it update or will it remain as was when I bookmarked it? Did that make sense? It is late in the day...sugar must be low!
Thanks
Michelle

Joan, can you pull that from the spreadsheet? And when you do, would you be kind enough to post both nubmers (i.e. # of individuals and # of families) here? Also, I think those of us participating are going to need to know how many folks are participating in the fish exchange. That's on the spreadsheet isn't it?

And MassDisLovers, are you keeping any track of how many people are expressing an interest in the Yankee Trade? It'll be fun, whether we have 5 or 20 people, but I think the more people there are the more fun it is.

Hi all,

I am just trying to get myself somewhat organized. (LOL) Now I know that the dismeet is 2:00 on the promenade deck. Is that on embarkment day? I would love to meet everyone but I don't know how easy that would be at that time between lunch, unpacking and just getting on the boat. My family teases me about all my dis buddies and how I'm a nerd, I'm not so sure how quickly my 13yo DS and husband would move to make the 2:00 meet. That is if I could even get them to go:sad2: My daughter is like me, will talk to anybody. She would love to meet new people. Also is anyone staying at the Hyatt the night before the cruise. Maybe we could meet up at the rooftop pool.

Michelle,

I would highly recommend CBR. :thumbsup2
We love that hotel. It is very big and spreadout. The Old Port Royale is the main area with a food court, arcade, theme pool, paddle boats, bicycle rentals, etc. There are seperate non-theme pools scattered around the property also. There is a great 2.2 mile walking/jogging path that goes around the lake. And a bridge across the middle of the lake. I cant wait to see what they do in the rehab because I thought it was perfect, so it can only be better. :wizard:

It is either Sunday, Monday or Tuesday depending on which rotation you get and you won't know that until you get on the ship. Are you late or early seating?

I'm late seating! Can I cancel if it's on the same day. Do they need a certain amount of time notice.

I'll do that but my only issue is that we haven't heard from a lot of the people on the spreadsheet. I hope they will still be with us on the cruise. What I can do is highlight the individuals that are still in contact with the thread. How's that sound?

Hello all- just getting back from a LONG day of prom dress shopping (no, we did not find THE dress).:sad2:

I want everyone to understand that I only suggested the "Yankee Swap" as an ice-breaker sort of activity for our DISMeet. I absolutely did not mean it to replace the fish extender fun. Just as some people will do the fish extenders and some won't, the swap would obviously be only for those who wish to participate.

After what's been said here about kids potentially having hurt feelings, how about if we have it be one gift per adult/or family? That way no little ones would misunderstand and be upset. Those dissers who do not want to participate in the swap can "supervise"the rest of us and make sure we behave!

msdisney53, I have the just-turned 18 year old DD. She's a senior in high school. This is her fourth Disney cruise, but she's feeling like she might be a little old for the Stack. I also have a DD 15 who is a freshman in high school. Maybe our girls could e-mail each other before the cruise?

Joan, that would be great if you could add the swap to the spreadsheet. Do you want me to count up the responses and send them to you or are you already ahead of me?

Thanks so much ! Karen

I like the idea of the yankee swap. I can see the point of the kids with hurt feelings. What if we did a "kid pile" and an "adult pile"? This way, kids swap kid-appropriate gifts with each other and no one gets hurt feelings for losing something they liked and adults can play the switcheroo version?
Plus, kids might initiate their own trades and if they want to keep what they have, that's fine too.
Hypothetically speakng: let's say i'm not into snowglobes, but somebody at the swap is - i would probably look for the person who is really into snowglobes and swap with them.
I like the idea.

That's a great idea. And teenagers (being as incomprehensible as they are) could choose which group to go into, maybe?
