A few things I forgot to mention in my April 17th post. DH and I had our embarkation photo taken as we boarded, but we didn't buy the photo and we did not bother to get our photo made anywhere else when asked, except for Tritons and Palo. DH bought our Tritons photo, but I didn't want to buy any of them.
Another thing I want to mention, I decided to take advantage of our REAS pkg
(breakfast and massage, turndown service and Palo's) on our last day of the cruise, which was a day at sea. This ended up working very well for us and was a great way to end the cruise.
Nassau is not one my favorite places to visit and I have been here 5 times before. DH likes Nassau and so I let him decide what he wanted to do. I had told him about the Pirate museum (I learned about it on this board, thanks guys!) and also he wanted to go visit Atlantis again and maybe see the DIG.
We got up, dressed and out on deck 10 to watch the ship dock, then on to a nice breakfast on deck 9 at BBB, sitting in the sun and watching people from the other ships docked next to us. Homer and Marge love to eat al fresco
and looked forward to many more meals at BBB. Love those Krispy kreme donuts, but I am still working those babies off my thighs
I also had scrambled eggs and hashbrowns, followed by some fresh fruit. And lots of coffee.
We head back to our cabin and get my purse and we are off the ship not long after they give the all ashore.
I hate shopping (a crime for a woman, I know) and DH likes the straw market but he's kind to me and we steer clear. we head up to Bay Street and enjoy window shopping (I can handle that ok). Soon we come to reliaze we have walked too far north, but we are at a very beautiful old church
It is Christ Church, a historic church built in 1846 or so. The site had churches on it dating from the 1600's. I wish now we had taken the time to see inside.
We head back toward the east and soon we see the Pirates museum. After going into the gift shop next door to buy admission tickets we head to the museum and watch a tourist get searched by a "pirate" for plunder. The fellow who played the part was very good and had us rolling with laughter. We enjoyed the museum and spent about an hour and half there. I am the type who likes to read all the info and see the displays. We left and window shopped our way back to the ship. It was 12:30pm at this point so we went onboard to eat lunch (at BBB of course!). It was all good and we decided to head over to Paradise Island.
I decided to take matters in my own hands, and the first guy who asked if we needed a ride to Atlantis got this question from me... "Are you willing to take us right away without waiting for anyone else to take?"
He told me he had a limo and needed to have at least two more people before he would make the trip. I said I would be willing to pay more to leave now. He said $15? and I said pay the toll and you have a deal. I hate to wait, can you tell?? lol
Well, it was a very nice limo and DH had his very first limo ride ever. I had had a lime ride to Atlantis on my cruise in 2004 (that one was my first).
The driver was so nice and gave us a mini-tour on the way over, giving us a short history of the island as we made our way to Atlantis. He was so great we gave him a $20 and a smile and said our thanks.
I had booked a Comfort Suites room on my last cruise, as we 4 girls were interested in swimming and laying around the pools at Atlantis. We also toured the DIG and enjoyed the beach and splitting the cost of the room 4 ways made it way cheaper than Disney's price for just the beach day.
For DH and I to do that this trip would have been $150 apiece! No way is it worth that much. DH wanted to play some slots in the casino before we walked around, and after he and I both played a family feud slot we don't have at the casinos at home, we left up $40 apiece after an hour of play. We now had the admission price for the dig and enough to pay for limo over. But DH decided he didn't want to go through the DIG so we walked around the grounds, checked out the yachts in the marina, and just enjoyed the day. We took a regular van~taxi back to the port and boarded the ship around 5pm with some extra jingle in our pockets.
~~to be continued~~
After our day in Nassau, we are back onboard and decide to head to our cabin to shower and change clothes. We head to the Cove cafe to enjoy a beverage, I had a mocha something and it was wonderful. I forgot to mention that when we had visited cove cafe the day before to check it out, we sat outside were we could see the adult pool and watched the water in the pool slop over the sides -back and forth, back and forth. The pool was roped off at this point.
It is almost 7pm and DH then decides he wants to watch some of the Cubs game in Diversions and have another Guinness
. Several other people are watching the game too and we cheer on the Cubs together. There is a small hot buffet set up with hot poppers (those fried stuffed cheese peppers) and some hot wings and tortilla chips and salsa, etc. we watch the game for about an hour,
then I return to the cabin to freshen up for tonights dinner in AP, as DH checks his email in the internet cafe. Soon he's back and we head down to check out our photos in Shutters. I'm not really impressed with any of them and have so many from previous cruises I decide we don't need any more. By this time it's 8:25 pm so we head to AP and enjoy better service this evening. We enjoy hearing about the activites our tablemates did today and their plans for CC tomorrow. I love seafood and samon and anytime it's on the menu, I have it. Tonight I decide to go for steak instead and wish I had stuck with seafood. Ok, but not as enjoyable as salmon would have been. We stay for dessert and then head out to see Max Winfrey's adult show in Wavebands. Our tablemates had seen his 6:30 family show and had enjoyed it, so we thought we'd give it a go. We are really glad we did, he was really funny (and man, what arms!) I guess if you juggle bowling balls you get arms like those! the show is over at 11pm and we decide not to stay for 80's night but head back over to Diversions for another drink. Homer enjoys yet another beer and then we head up to deck 10 to walk around and to see the lights of Nassau. The ship doesn't depart until 2am, so there will be no watching the ship sail way for us tonight.
We decide to head to bed, as we want to get an early start on CC tomorrow. The thing about being a past cruiser is you know how fun CC is and you wnat to ensure you get to spend as much time as possible here.
Goodnight, moon!
