April 17, 2011 on the Dream

I have a sprint 4g hotbox type of thing that allows me to get wifi on my iPad and laptop. I'm wondering how the rates would work if I turned that on to get access or whether it would even work. Ps - I also wonder If my company would get the bill and freak out!?! :rolleyes1

Just thinking that we may have to wear these shirts on the first day...everyone will know who we are!! Of course - how many people at the age of 42 can say they have a 7 year old sister - so I also think that makes us stand out! :thumbsup2
Debbie

Those shirts came out so cute that I think you should make all of us one also that says "dis sister"!! :grouphug:

two questions.... Is a sundress with flat black sandals appropriate for palo dinner or is that not dressy enough?

2nd question - I just looked at the Teen board. Caitlyn's mom from NJ - she mentioned she is on deck 6 midship and we are as well. I thought that'd be cool if we make sure to hook our girls up together so they can come/go together. ...

Hey
Check out the t-shirts I made for Asia, my mom and me...

:lovestruc Beautiful! I am not going to Google the tool you used. No, I am not. :rotfl: Even though I think I might really need one.......

Let's see, one month from today I will be running around the house doing last minute packing while the kids are gone. One more month of work until vacation - repeat, repeat, repeat. I think it's finally becoming real now. Hooray!!

One month from today, we'll be picking up our car at MCO and heading over to Universal for 2 nights. I can feel the warm sunshine already!!!!! Can't wait, can't wait, can't wait....

Just wanted to check in, I have not been able to DIS for a while now.. life has just been too busy! But, I have responded to the wake up call telling me how close we are to the cruise and done the following:

Ordered both DDs some new spring clothes via kohls

Bought each a new pair of water shoes

Bought each 2 new dresses. One more formal for each for the dressy night, and then a sundress each. After school today we are headed to the mall to look at bathing suits for the older DD.

Need to make my to do list in the next couple of days. Tomorrow I think I finally have some down time to work on it.

We are VERY excited and I enjoyed reading all of the banter from the last week!

Hopefully Ill be around more often very soon!

Happy packing and planning :)

bdink921 - girl, I live right here also!!! Other side of the City, but still right here in the heart of the Commonwealth! Do you work in the City? I have a couple other DIS friends right here in the City also! Would love to get together with you! And anyone else close by - Goofy4Tink is near here also!

Maybe we should do a roll call for Central MA!!! :woohoo:

I heard yesterday on NPR that the camera men need to get the cameras ready for the the score board if Cross gets 2 points above Kentucky at any point in the game so they can use that on all web sites! :cutie: Hope they do better than that! :cheer2:

As for the question, and I can't remember who asked it because I was trying desperately to catch up on the thread, about recognizing each other - I am going to be handling that with my FE gift which I will distribute right away to everyone! I find it essential to have these identifyers! I won't ruin the surprise, but hopefully it will be taken care of!

oooooh, I am having a rare stroke of genius....:idea:

It will require another list though :rolleyes1 oh deb.....

Why don't we choose one of those mickey ear images from millipie's designs, one of the ones that says "dis'er", and we each put our own name on the design, and iron it on a shirt and wear it onto the boat and to our meet!!!!!!

It will be like a cute name tag and design all rolled into one! I'm first in that list if anyone wants to join me? Also, if anyone is wearing their own designs that day to match their family, they can just iron it on to the other side! :dance3:

Thoughts??

Exactly 5 weeks from yesterday, it was Monday and Nassau port day! Some woke up really early and watched the 6:45am sunrise in complete and total awe as the captain sailed our huge ship into the tiny Nassau harbor and gently nestled it up against the dock. Amazing! Some of us, on the other hand, slept in and didn’t even realize the ship had stopped moving! :rolleyes1

Our first decision was where to eat breakfast. Buffets are available at Cabana’s and Enchanted Garden, Flo’s Café has a variety of grab and go pastries, and a fancy sit-down breakfast is available at Royal Palace. :) Espresso lovers headed straight to the adults-only Cove Cafe for made-to-order specialty coffee.

A few families with early rising children are enjoying the Mickey pool all to themselves! Those who like to work out have already hit the gym or are walking/jogging laps around the Deck 4 promenade. (I’m not sure yet how long that track is, but on the Magic and Wonder every three laps equals one mile.) The Aqua Duck opens at 9am, which might be a good time to try it without a wait.

Quite a few of us are planning to stay on the ship all day but many others are preparing to debark for port excursions. Sunscreen, check. Hats, check. Sunglasses, check. Souvenir money, check. KTTW card, check. ID, check. Camera, check. We’re ready to go! As we step off the Dream’s gangway, we realize it’s the first time we’ve been able to actually stand right up next to the ship, and again we marvel at how large she is! We pause to take photos with our ship in the background, then compare her to the other cruise ships that are in port. Funny story – on our very first Disney cruise on the Magic in ‘98, we were docked across from Carnival’s Big Red Boat – which our teen-aged kids immediately dubbed the Little Red Raft because it didn’t’ even come close to comparing to the size and beauty of our magnificent vessel. :rotfl2:

Walking toward a row of brightly tropical-painted buildings, we stop again for photos at the “Welcome to Nassau” backdrop while becoming faintly aware of live Jamaican music in the distance. Ahhh yes, here in the Bahamas we be jammin’, Mon! ;) Soon, we step out into the hustle and bustle of the tiny island. We’ll be asked, cajoled, pleaded, flattered, and begged to take a taxi, guided tour, buy some trinkets, or get our hair braided. Women will be called “Pretty Lady” dozens of times by almost every local resident. It’s an experience like no other!

On the ship, there are plenty of activities to keep us busy throughout the day. More movies are playing in the Buena Vista Theatre and the on the huge Funnel View screen. Maybe we’ve decided to play shuffleboard, ping-pong, foosball, basketball, putt-putt, Wii games, board games, bingo, the Midship Detective Agency adventure, find all the interactive art, or take a guided ship tour. The Navigator is full of so many things to do that we sometimes have to chose between two or more enticing activities! The kids aren’t the only ones enjoying their age-specific areas… we adults can partake in beer/wine tastings, relax in the spa , work out in the gym, read, relax, snack, sample delicious treats in Cove Café, etc., etc., etc. Characters will be out and about in various locations for photos and autographs. Hey, isn’t it time to eat again? Lunch buffets await! :)

As evening approaches, those with Main Dining will head to restaurant #2 on their dining rotation. What was that table number? Some servers will greet you by name as you enter the dining room! How in the world do they remember us when their guests change every 3-4 nights?!? We, in turn, greet our tablemates, asking how their day was and comparing notes. We’ll also notice that our servers wear different outfits for each restaurant, reminding us that everything Disney does is a “show” and the entire crew is part of the “cast”. The rest of us will soon be entering the Walt Disney Theatre for Villians Tonight! But first, maybe we’ll stop by Tow Mater’s Grill and pick up some piping hot french fries to tide us over until dinner… or better yet, get some ice-cream from Eye Scream!

Nassau’s all-aboard time is 6:00 p.m. Will everyone make it back on board? We’ll know some guests are AWOL if we start hearing names being paged over the sound system! As the ship pulls away from the dock, keep an eye out for the Pilot Boat. It’s small and has a very thick black rubber bumper all the way around it. Once we’ve cleared the channel and are heading out to sea, watch as the pilot boat speeds closer and closer to one side of our ship, carefully matching our speed. When it gets within inches of The Dream, you’ll see a person jump (yes, JUMP!) :scared1: from below on our ship onto the Pilot Boat! You have to watch carefully… blink and you’ll miss it! And that, Ladies and Gentlemen, Girls and Boys, was the Nassau Port Pilot who’s job is to help guide large ships safely out to sea without a Titanic mishap along the way. pirate:

Soon, late diners are headed to dinner and main diners will have their turn to watch Villians Tonight! And after everyone has had a full day of fun, it’s time to head back to our cabins for a good night’s sleep before docking at paradise in the morning! Another check in our FEs yields more bounty! We’re so glad we signed up for this! And, another towel animal patiently awaits our arrival inside our cabin, along with little chocolates and the Castaway Cay Navigator! We fall asleep thinking about how what a great time we've had so far and how happy we are that we brought our families on this wonderful cruise! :goodvibes

I'm in CT ;) but I did go to Northeastern in Boston for a few years.

I'm sure if you ask, Millipie would add text specific to our cruise and dates on it if you want. Maybe something like, "Disney Dreaming" and "April 2011"? How about if you choose the design and then post it for all of us to copy. :flower3:

I was thinking that if you did want to add a date, and used April 2011 instead of April 17-21, 2011, then the 4 of us who are doing B2Bs could wear them on both cruises! :thumbsup2

I can tell you that my DH won't go for a large graphic in the middle of a t-shirt, but I might be able to talk him into a smaller one and iron it on where a name tag would usually sit. He's not a Grumpy Gus... just a bit on the shy side... unlike his DW of 32 years. :rotfl:

guarn3md, we would still recognize your t-shirts without this design added to them - or - you could wear these shirts on the first day and your princess/queen shirts on another??? princess:

My DH MAYBE would wear one if the design was small like a name tag, but I would and if it's "cool" enough my DS 'cool jake' would wear it too LOL. Great idea :thumbsup2

I absolutely love the Tiara bedazzled shirts. My 6yo DD wouldn't take it off. I may have to try making one for her.

As for the custom shirts for the first day of the cruise, I think it is a great idea. I would wear one for sure!

I love the custom shirt idea for the first day...only one problem...Millipie has shut down her thread! She was close to 250 and is finishing up the requests, then taking some time off before starting up again. I have requested so many designs from her and downloaded some with 2011 on them - I wonder if any would fit for our group.
Let me know if there is anyway I can help...I love working with Disney graphics and designing t-shirts.
Jeni37...Is there anyway I can help make this shirt happen for your daughter? I have the tool and I am not afraid to use it! I had uberprints print the design digitally onto the t-shirt... your daughter also fits the little sis category!

Thanks for the offer! That is so kind of you! I have a heat fix tool that I use for scrapbooking, I bet it would work on a tee shirt. What tool did you use?

I have never had a tee shirt made on-line. How did you do it? If you give me some guidance, I can order one for her and bedazzled it. Are sure that you don't mind my daughter having a similar shirt to yours? She would thrilled to have a bedazzled tiara on her shirt.

Thanks again. I still cannot get over how kind and considerate everyone is here. I am so looking forward to meeting all you terrific ladies in a few short weeks!

Jen:thanks:

hey guys, I have a bunch of the designs. I will post them over on facebook, OK?

you guys can grab what you want. I don't have many of Millpie's though.

But I have something for the DIS.

:thumbsup2

Going to PM you about the shirt...

I have no problem sharing the DISign...Asia is turning 7 next Tuesday so she will probably see you daughter in the kids club. Asia is very outgoing and loves hanging out with anyone!

Love the DISigns being posted on facebook. I will look through mine and see if any fit. I always forget about the facebook group. For some reason I can't get the group to come up on my iPhone. What am I doing wrong??
