FISH EXTENDER (FE) INFO

(Plagarized and modified slightly from Deb T. 4/17/11 Dream Cruise Meet thread...:worship::rolleyes1...Thanks Deb :flower3::flower3:)

For anyone who's new to the Fish Extender Exchange, here's what it's all about:

Beside every cabin door is a large silver fish, seahorse, etc. with an indentation in the back for cruise personnel to leave information, invitations, etc.

DISboarders have taken the silver fish one step further... by creating hanging pockets (much like cloth letter holders) to hang from the fish - thus the name, "Fish Extender". The Fish Extenders (FEs) can be made of practically anything (cloth, plastic, paper gift bags, etc.), as long as they have at least one pocket that can hold surprises. My FE is just a plain little canvas bag that I had a DisSigner make a graphic for and I ironed it on.

Then, each "Cruise Meets" thread (such as this 4-1-12 one) organizes a little gift exchange during the cruise. People sign up by giving their cabin number, names of everyone in their cabin, and ages of the kids so that everyone will know how many goodies to bring and where to deliver them. Some people give one gift per family, some people give a little gift to each person. It's totally up to the giver to decide what to give and when to give it during the cruise.

There are several threads that discuss ideas for FE gifts. Some gifts are from Dollar Stores, some are handmade, and some are bought in bulk from websites that sell trinkets like the Oriental Trading Company. Often, they are stickers, candy, glow sticks, lanyards, etc., with themes such as pirates, beach, cruise, tropical, hometown, holiday, etc. The main idea is just to have fun finding little goodies in your FE throughout the cruise. Kids LOVE running back to their cabin to see if anything's been left in their FE. As an adult, I have to admit that I love it, too!!!

If you'd like to join in on the fun on our cruise, please let me know. Since some people travel earlier in the week prior to a cruise, we should close the list by March 1, 2012 to give everyone time to purchase gifts and pack them. You'll also need to print the final list of participants and pack it with your gifts so you'll know where to deliver them once you're onboard the ship.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. Also, this thread has tons of info and ideas about FE Gift Exchanges: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1219607

If you'd like to sign up, you can either post your information here on this thread, or send me a Private Message by clicking on my name in the upper left-hand side of this box and then click on "Send Guarn3md a Private Message". I will keep participants updated with details through Private Messages, but will keep a running list of DIS names on this thread.

YAY for trying to get the FE stuff finalized, I'm starting to "worry" over how much to bring along. LOL

Thanks!:thumbsup2

Packing our bags for a quick weekend trip with just the two of us. Heading to Orlando this evening for Marathon Weekend. Anyone else going, by any chance? Hubby is running the 1/2 Saturday morning. Staying with friends who work for the Mouse, hitting the parks through the weekend, and flying home Monday morning. Our kids aren't too happy with us, though they are excited at the prospect of 4 nights at their grandparents (where the word "no" is not spoken, especially by Papa...). :scared1: We keep telling them (which is really the truth) that we are soooo much more excited about when we take them down this "summer" (that's what they think), but they really have NO idea just how excited we are to be surprising them with this cruise in the spring instead! :rotfl:

Have a good weekend, everyone!
Erin

Just checking to see how many of "us" will be single parents for this cruise? Does anyone know of any singles events?

Thanks!

:thumbsup2

All- my DH and two DS (11 & 12) plus MOM will also be cruising on April 1st. This is the first cruise for the kids:cheer2: but not for my DH and I. Looking foward to all the adventures on the cruise and meeting other families...

See you all there, should be a wonderful time.

Time is starting to go by very quickly and in less than 80 days we'll be cruising..... time to start and work on FE gifts!!!!!!

Looking forward to the warmer weather already....:cool1:

I just pm'd Deb about the FE, any experienced cruisers know how many families typically participate? I am trying to make sure there's enough room in our bags for the gifts we need to bring!

I just got our PM and will respond shortly. Just got home from a surprise 40th birthday party in Baltimore last night, needless to say didn't get much sleep last night....:headache::sick::upsidedow
The number of participants in a FE changes for every cruise. The one I participated in last April had around 35 (I think). We ended up having a group that wanted to participate with everyone and a group that wanted a smaller number. I have been watching the numbers too, since we are flying also. I want to come up with something small...

First time posting...

First time on a Disney cruise for my family of 4, son is 8, daughter is 6 and we are so excited to go, only 77 days left. We are DVC members and go to WDW just baout every year. I can't believe we have waiting this long to hit up the cruise line.

Look forward to meeting everyone!!

Reading a few pages back I saw some people with questions on the Nausau day in port. My wife and I were at Atlantis this past year for 4 days and loved the resort. However just some tips if you were looking to book an event there. The waterpark there is very cool, but not as large or any better then what you get in Orlando, or any of the big water parks around the US, think Wisconsin Dells. The dolphin experiences their are very expensive considering how litte time you actually are with the animals. Now that all being said Atlantis is extremely clean and well managed, a disney for adults if you will. You don't have to deal with any locals and it is very clean and safe. If you don't mind the crazy prices I would suggest going, however based purely on value...no thanks. I've spent time in downtown Nausau as well, its ok. Not as nice as say Georgetown, Grand Cayaman but an upgrade over Jamican ports. Pretty sure my family is staying on board, unless something pops up last minute.

Thank you very much for posting this! I get to check in tonight and based on this I just won't panic if I can't get the waterpark and animal experience that my DD "has" to have. Many thanks! :thumbsup2

Does anyone know of anything close to the ship to do on Nassau? Some of my friends/family wanted some of the sold-out port adventures (glass bottom boat tour) and are now looking for something else to do. How far are the sights from the ship (forts, gardens, etc)? And anyone know the approximate price to get in if you don't go through Disney? Are there any public beaches near-by?

Just looking for a little insight since we got rained out the last time I was there and had to stay on ship. Thanks!!

there is a fair amount of taxis/cars available if you want to get around. There is a public beach within walking distance but its ok, some locals as well. The "downtown" area is safe to walk around, Jimmy Buffet's is like the others. If you don't mind dropping $25 take a taxi to the Marina Village at Atlantis not a bad stop. Some good food, good shopping and all very clean and safe. And it gives you a crazy good view of the massive yachts that dock at Atlantis.

Today is 75 days till we cruise! Did all the first-timers do on line check in? If not, get on line and do it! As of 5:30 this morning there were still 11-11:30 port check in times available.

The system is slow, so if you can't log on, keep trying.

We're all checked in and booked! Only wanted to book one thing - the Caribbean Queen Snorkel, and got an early afternoon time like we wanted.

Also, couldn't do online check-in at midnight last night (kept trying until 1:00 :surfweb:), but it was working early this morning. Still managed to get 11:30-12:00 port arrival, which is perfect based on our ride time from Kidani Village. Yea!!

CANNOT wait for this cruise to get here! I REALLY need to get thinking on these FE gifts...it's just hard since I have to keep it all a secret from my kids. My daughter would have great ideas!!!

Erin

Got the 11:30 check in as well.

We are driving into Cape on Saturday and still need to book a hotel. Either the Radison or Courtyard. Anybody have a good or bad experience with the park & cruise services from those?

The kids are so excited and so is the mrs and I. We are celebrating our 10th anniversary as well, 75 days can't get her fast enough!!
