Was anyone at the MNSSHP last night, Sept 29? There was a family wearing matching costumes, that really bugged me. They were all wearing sheets, like togas, not Charlie Brown ghosts, lol. One tween aged girl carried a large sign, that lit up (!) that proclaimed to all, "The Sheet Family".

Then it got weird. They all wore badges, front or back or both. I only know most of them, because I got a photo. 4 year old in stroller was labelled "Piece of Sheet". Dad, "Aww Sheet" Mom, "In Deep Sheet", 11 year old boy, "Bull Sheet". I missed the name of the tween girl carrying the sign, but you get the idea. It is possible their last name IS Sheet, but maybe not?

I asked a cast member about it, when we finished up a meet and greet, that they were also lined up for. Obviously the only thing I questioned were the large name badges. Then I forgot about it, until I saw them again at the end of the night, so I guess I was wrong and this was acceptable. I was not the only guest who did not like their names, either.

I guess I am getting old. Maybe it IS funny?

I don't think it is funny, but I don't think it is really offensive. A young child couldn't read and even my 2nd grade 7 year old son probably wouldn't "get" it. If it was not scary, no actual offensive language, and they were covered, then I don't see the problem.

The tween girl was "Holy Sheet"
I do know that they made them cover their name badges for their Photopass picture with the seven dwarves. Whether it is appropriate or not is going to be relative...some will find it funny and others won't.
I wouldn't have done it...and when we saw them, we both were a little perplexed. I would never put a child in something that said "piece of sheet"...there are way too many other options.

I completely agree with this. Why? Why would you place your children in the world of vulgarity, and at Disney, no less? There is an ad on TV that runs in a similar vein and I find it tasteless, but at least it doesn't involve children. It's not the worst thing in the world, but why not celebrate magic and family fun without resorting to crude jokes?

When the name badges were covered, then it might have crossed a line and probably should not have been allowed in the park.

I think it is borderline. My younger DS would not get it but my older DD would get it. DH would find it humorous, military humor ;) but would not like the kids in it.

I think it takes a lot to ruffle the feathers of the Disney staff - and understandably, considering what people are paying to get into the park. I would have approved of the costumes if they had used props for the various names, like a halo for Holy Sheet, or horns and a tail for Bull sheet. Nametags, that's just a cheaters way out of creative costuming, tsk tsk tsk. :)

Ok, devil's advocate there. Really, this was a seriously poor choice of costuming for a Disney park. Mostly because of the potential for it to incite an argument with other offended park goers which might escalate into something much worse.

As far as the costumes themselves, in the larger scheme of things perhaps giving the word play a humorous tone deflates the power of the bad word association for the kids. Not to mention walk into any Party City and see what they are offering to dress your little tykes and tweens in and I'd be much more likely to choose the sheet and a play on words than the saxxy kitty or slinky bat any day.

Because some people find that stuff humorous I guess.

I'm with the pp, young kids can't read or aren't going to get it. Others that would have obviously heard the word before. Its not really a big deal to me, but I would think it would be better at a private Halloween party instead of at WDW.

My guess is that they wanted attention.

They got it.

:rolleyes2

I don't get it either.

Probably not Disney appropriate, but it wouldn't have even been on my radar.

Probably only hit my radar because I was online stuck with them for over 40 minutes. :rotfl:

I think it was Piece of Sheet that got me, too. If they were all adults, it would have been different to me, I think. So that means it was more me judging their parenting than me being actually offended. And that makes me wrong, because I have seen way worse parenting in my lifetime than this. :thumbsup2

Mom or Dad should have been Piece of Sheet. And I don't mean that as a judgment on their parenting, just that Aww Sheet would have been better for a 4 year old IMO if your family was so inclined to dress up this way :lmao:

This. Our last name is 'unconventional'. We would be the first people to make fun of it. We live with it everyday and have heard it all. So why not have fun with it. We do all the time.

Tasteless. Perhaps Mom's badge should have been "Dumb Sheet," while Dad's badge should have read "Sheet for Brains." I'm surprised Disney did not step in to intervene at the turnstile.

Perfect! Not Disney approprate at all!

It would be hilarious... if they were all teens/adults at a party geared towards older guests. But not with little kids and not at Disney.

I don't feel the sheet costume thing is appropriate for Disney at all. I don't go there expecting to be confronted by something like that...it's tacky and crude and hey, if little kids don't get it, that's great, but I'm an adult - I get it and my family doesn't use that kind of language and I don't particularly care for it.

What's the point of Disney having costume guidelines if they're not enforced?
This is right off the Disney website:
"Costumes Should
"Be child-friendly.
Costumes Should Not
"Be obstructive, offensive or violent.

Please Note
"Please be sure costumes meet these guidelines. If a costume cannot be modified, a Guest may be refused entry into the event.

Some might feel that "everyone will be offended by something sooner or later", but give me a break...the theme was based on a curse word. So how is that child-friendly and not offensive to those of us who don't use that kind of language? Plus, from the OP's description, it sounded like they could've easily been modified...just take the signs off. Hey, too bad, the joke is ruined but you should've thought of that as a possibility before bringing the tastelessness to a family theme park.

Plus this'll be my third year at MNSSHP and I've only seen pretty nice costumes so far. Am hoping to experience the same this year.

P.S. What does this have to do with the Budget Board?
