Our family of 4 is scheduled to sail Jan 10 on the Eastern Caribbean cruise...This will be our first cruise and I am concerned about bringing appropriate clothing....If anyone has any suggestions please let me know...My boys are 7 and 9. Thanks.

Take less clothes. I always go in the summer. But if you can take one pair of dress shoes to go with everything that will help.
ex: take 4 pairs of slacks and then several shirts that can go with the slacks/jeans/shorts.
I got several of those dresses that are reversable and that help cut down on dresses for me. I bought three of those and just flipped inside/out and i had six outfits for a seven day cruise.
Take a light jacket. I hope this helps some.

Reversible dress? I've never heard of such!!! Tell me more....

The boys will need a pair of decent long pants (not shorts or jeans) for the dining rooms at dinner. Otherwise, shorts and jeans are fine. They can wear polo shirts, no need for a tie at their age.

If you want to dress them up in a suit or whatever, there are always kids dressed up...but it sure isn't required or expected. One pair of dress shoes (or even black tennies), and comfortable shoes. We always pack too much....less is definitely better. Just have a light weight jacket for everyone...cool evenings are possible.

They ask that we not wear shorts to dinner, and that you "dress up" for Palo (the adult only restaurant). Other than that, it's very casual. Formal night can be as formal or informal as you wish...and you will see the full spectrum...just let the boys be comfortable! No point in making the kids hate dinner because they have to dress up so much. If you have a little girl who likes dressing up, she will have lots of chances.....

Ooh, very interesting. I wish I could try the dress on first to know what size I would need and how it looked on me. But that is neat how it reverses black to design!

I'm not sure what size I'd order online- for hips I'd be XS, waist S, chest M. ??? Maybe I'll check out their guarantee and just plan on returning it if it doesn't fit -whatever size I ended up ordering? If you bought one of those dresses specifically- is the chest area kinda "stretchy"- or not?

I have a couple of knee length khaki skirts (one khaki in color, the other black, but khaki in that they are the same sort of cotton), that can be mixed with tops for different nights. And since I tend to wear collared shirts anyway, all I have to do is slip out of the shorts I had on during the day and into the skirt. We are only going on a four day, so I don't need to bother with a formal - but I am bringing something a little dressier for our Triton's night - more because I have it and want an excuse to wear it (its a sky blue silk long "slip dress" that I wore in a wedding five years ago - and have had out for a summer wedding or two since. Quite dressy when accessorized right, but with sandals and simple jewelry, casual.).

I'm bringing one pair of khakis for my son (who is five) and four "not t-shirts" for him to wear to dinner. My daughter is four and wears nothing but dresses anyway.

My boys bring zip off pants, so that they are shorts for the day and long pants for the dinner. They bring polo or golf shirts for dinner to go with the pants..

hoi,

I went on the X-mas cruise on december 20th. Since I'm dutch and don't have your prom-dress habit I was at a loss for a formal dress. Evening dresses cost a fortune here and since i am probably not going to use it again very soon.....
So I took the chance and wore my chinese dress...you know one of those high necked, short sleved, ankle long ( with a split up to....)blue satin ones with the golden dragons on it... They hardly cost more than 15-20 dollars ( i bought mine in singapore for even less)

And you know what.....it went great! Eventhough most people will wear black you'll be just fine if you fancy it up with some chop sticks in your hair and a nice pair of sandals. Go for it....try something else...and get a friendly smile from the personel from asia on board of the ship!

But then....nomatter what you wear you'll have a fantastic time!:wave2:

WDWLVR, I have to thank you again for posting that link. That website is the bomb! I'll probably buy some stuff there for both myself and my husband- but it also comes in handy for a person like myself that has never cruised before and doesn't dress up a whole lot otherwise... right down to lists of things to bring (with links to buy those things from them) on cruises! I like the mixNmatch reversible stuff too. Thanks again! That website is definitely bookmarked in my favorites! The hard part is deciding on what to buy when you can't buy every single thing listed. LOL

We went when our boys were 11. They brought 2 pairs of dockers (black and tan) and black dress shoes. One white shirt with a big boy tie, and three polo shirts each. They were the sharpest dressed boys there. The black pants, dress shirt, and tie looked great! OF course immediatly after dinner they changed into shorts :-)

DH brought his new suit and one pair of dockers with polo shirts and was good to go too.

I on the other hand had a new outfit every night :smooth:

Hope this helps.
