I just wanted to say that I appreciate the Disboards community. Sure, sometimes we have our differences but they are usually minor and everyone is very friendly towards each other. Unlike some other boards on the web. One website I visit and rarely post on has pretty much turned my stomach.

I won’t post the name of the website but some of you may visit or post there so you probably know what I’m talking about. They have a lot of members on their forum that have insider knowledge. A lot of these “insiders” and there “followers” have formed a clique of sorts on the forums.
If anyone counters what they say or has a differing opinion, they are generally met with hostility.

Case in point, a forum member disputed the dollar amount when and insider reported how much Disney had now spent on NextGen. Another friendly board member summed up the result pretty well:

“Somebody maybe / maybe not being off a bit over some budget is in no way, shape or form any excuse for bullying. 'Hey, there's a guy wrong about a number, let's all scream insults at him, and bully him away and take away his hobby.'

Do people realise that a very kind, pleasant, friendly poster has been bullied away from this website? Think about it. Take a step back and think about it. An actual, real person, like you and me, with Disney for a hobby, who gets a bit misty eyed at Wishes, who watches classic Disney movies on his home cinema set, and has been posting here for several years. He has been bullied away from this website, in plain sight, for all to see.

A disgraceful act. And that's men and women and their thirties and forties acting. Juvenile and insufferable behaviour, a great shame that continues to hang over this thread and the other, and over this website that let it happen, and over several posters who need to take a good long look in the mirror.”

That was bad enough, but then the forum moderator/website owner chimed in:

“Everyone who takes part in this thread chooses to do so. Nobody is forced to take part. If a poster doesn't like the subject, content or mood of a thread, they can easily step out. If someone keeps going back and forth, as the poster you mention did, then it would seem that he or she is happy to be engaged in that discussion. I don't see that as bullying.”

He, in my opinion, is basically saying “It’s OK to bully others and call them names as long as they continue to be part of the conversation. And if they leave the conversation, well that’s OK too because they are no longer getting bullied.”

Anyway, I just want to reiterate that I appreciate the friendly environment of the Disboards and I hope to do so for many years to come.

I had never been on any Disney forums ever, and I only learned of the Disboards within the last month. As a Disney Veteran, and the neighborhood and office Disney know it all, I never felt the need to join a forum.

Now that I have decided to give the Disboards a chance, Im realizing that there is a wealth of information that I didnt know. I learn new things every single day, and every single member seems to really appreciate the magic that disney provides. I love that there are half a million other Disney lovers on here to talk to, bounce ideas off of, get info from, post their disney adventures.

Also, if I hadnt joined the Disboards, I wouldnt have learned about DisUnplugged, which has quickly become my latest obsession! There is nothing I want more than to sit in a room with Pete & Co discussing all things Disney!!

This is a great forum, and I am happy to be a part of it.

Thanks to The Dis!!
