Have you ever purchased a major appliance from Amazon? Any drawbacks? I love Amazon and purchase a lot of things through it, but for some reason, this makes me nervous. I am looking for a gas cooktop. It is over $100 cheaper through Amazon and they say it will get here by next Tuesday. Lowes and Sears both say it will be over 2 weeks to get it in. With both Lowes and Sears, I would do a store pickup, no installation. But, if something is wrong with it, it sure is easier to return to the store and not ship back to Amazon.

Any thought?

I would order from Amazon. I had trouble with a few small items purchased from them over the years and they were really good about returns, so I wouldn't worry that much about it.

And as far as it being an appliance, where I live, all the places you buy appliances contract out the deliveries and they come from a generic giant warehouse that I think multiple retailers use, so a "sears" delivery and a "Lowes" delivery might be in the same delivery truck and come from the same warehouse. Amazon probably does the same thing, so you most likely wouldn't notice a difference.

BTW, Home Depot told me that you have a shorter warranty/return period if you pick up versus having it delivered and installed by them, so it might be worth just letting them do the delivery and installation. And if you order from Amazon, they have a delivery service deliver it and sometihng is wrong, you should be able to just call them and get them to come and deal with a replacement.

I don't see any reason at all to be nervous about it.

Home Depot and Lowes usually price match. Take a copy of the Amazon price and see if they will. We had several appliances price matched with the print out from their competitors. Just a thought.

I haven't ordered an appliance, but I have ordered a couple of big screen TVs, and had no issues at all.
