I don't really know much about these but DH brought up this morning that maybe it would be a good idea to get rid of showtime and starz (when our $9.95 promo is over) and get appletv for movies. I thought maybe netflix would be a better deal (we used to have a subscription but I stopped finding things I wanted to see, DH never ordered anything and DS was ordering movies he had seen over and over and were available at the library).

I do redbox occasionally but with all the snow we've had this year I don't want to have to leave the house to return DVD's.

I'm thinking about getting Apple TV as well. My parents have it and love it (to be fair, my dad is an IT consultant and Apple-junkie, so he might be biased). One of the highlights of Apple TV is actually that you can easily stream on-demand shows and films with your Netflix subscription without having to deal with hooking up a media center for your tv. I think the streaming plus DVD at a time is now $9 or $10 a month, which is pretty cheap. You'll still pay whatever the going rental rate is on iTunes for shows and films without Netflix. The prices on iTunes should gradually go down as more folks start using Apple TV.

It is not Appletv or netflix. You would use appletv to rent movies and tv shows via multiple vendors including Netflix, Itunes, and anything you have imported into your Itunes library. There is also the Rokubox or if you need a blueray dvd palyer still you can also buy one that has netflix streaming built in.

We have Apple TV and love it. It streams Netflix and also my iTunes from my home computer. So all of our digital music can be accessed from the living room and we can play it through the home theater.

Its only $99 - a great deal.

Also check out the ROKU box. It does the same thing as AppleTv but I think it is even less money. We paid$60 for ours and use NEtflix to stream movies.

I would like to get an Apple TV box. I like that you can store pictures, home movies, and all your itunes on there.
