We've had many posts in the past about trying to find applesauce that could be brought through security because of needing applesauce for taking pills. I've found some!!!! It comes in 3.2 oz pouches. Not only that, but the pouches open with a screw cap so it can be opened and reclosed and no spoon required. I love these for school lunches but they'll also be great for on airplanes.

GoGo Squeez Applesauce

I'm set up with the amazon subscribe and save to get an additional 15% off through amazon. I used to get this at Whole Foods Market but even with the subscribe and save, amazon is cheaper (though at WFM you can buy individual pouches or single cases of 4 pouches; on amazon you have to buy by the case; that's fine for me since my kids LOVE these but some may not want that).

The TSA rules state that containers must be 3.4 oz or less. These are 3.2 so perfect.

They also come in other flavours of different fruits mixed with apples but my kids like the plain stuff.

That's a good find.

We have been able to bring pudding in more that 3 ounce packages thru security several times for giving medication. I had pulled it out and explained to the security people that we needed it for medication; they looked at it carefully and then allowed it through as a medical necessity. So, if you can only find a little bigger container, you may be able to get it though with a polite exaplanation.

I was not aware that there was a size limit on food brought thru esp. if it was for medical reasons. My DD is type 1 and we have been allowed to bring thru bottles of juice to correct a low sugar with really no questions and this was since all the rule changes. I have also had yogurts with me in little cooler and they never batted an eye...
Glad you were able to find something to make traveling easier though... good find.

My kids love these too and we often use them for road trips since they don't require a spoon and don't carry the same spill risk.

There is no size limitation for medical reasons. However, TSA just sees food and may not realize, until it's explained, that it is for medical purposes. All other food falls under the 3-1-1 rule.

We will be trying this for the first time in June as our DD was diagosed in December with Type 1 diabetes and we haven't flown yet. We plan to take a couple of juice boxes through security with us. Hopefully things go smoothly

For some of us it's hard to claim medical reasons. My kids have food allergies and can't eat the offerings on the plane. Yes there are plenty of solid options that we could bring but I do try to not bring anything with nuts because I'm aware of how dangerous some people's nut allergies can be and I can't take a chance that my kids having nothing to eat because somebody on board has a nut allergy so we'll be asked not to open anything with nuts. My oldest daughter's autistic so I'm not about to take a chance of her ending up hungry on a plane. I typically bring some Enjoy Life bars or cookies because they travel easily but it'll be nice to have applesauce as well.

For those who need it for swallowing pills, TSA may question the medical validity (not saying it's right but they may). Having a container smaller than 3.4oz just takes away any of that kind of stress and anxiety over worrying what TSA may say or do. Even with medical reasons such as what you've described, I'd still be anxious about going through security and try to find things under the 3.4oz limit just in case I encountered a TSA agent who doesn't understand the concept of medical foods and then just plan on buying juice once through security. I hate that kind of anxiety so I do my best to avoid possible issues even if I know I'd be in the right.

My teens (8th and 10th graders) love those even DH takes to work with him. Everyone wants them cause they're quirky.

There's another brand out there I think Peter Rabbit is the name, but the texture is more like baby food. If you want to try just one of that brand, Starbucks carries them.

The size 1 baby food containers are also under the limit. My son used to balk at those until I let him choose his flavors. He still balks at the applesauce because it isn't "real" applesauce in his opinion, but he loves the pear and the peach "sauce." We pack it as part of his allergy friendly lunch.
