Apples and knives?

I'm going down in April with my friend and her family. She has 4 kids, and wants to bring some snacks into the parks, including apples. She'd like to bring in a knife to cut them. I'm assuming that if they find it at security, they won't let it in. Would that be correct?

If so, do you think if we went to a restaurant and asked, they'd bring us a knife to cut the apple right there (not take it out of the restaurant or anything)?

Thanks. :goodvibes

The grocery stores here now sell pre-sliced apples in little packets. Why not save the hassle and just pick up some of those? I'm not sure Disney would give you a knife to use, because of liability issues, and they cannot take outside food back to the kitchen.

Can she just cut them up before going to the park? Put them in ziploc baggie or plastic container. This way she don't have to worry about not being able to get through security with a knife.

I think you have 2 good suggestions here.
I think a knife would be taken, if seen, at bag check.
I don't think you can expect restaurant staff to stop what they need to be doing, to fetch a knife so you can prepare your apples.
Good Luck

If they find it at bag check it will be confiscated.Seen many people forget they have pocket knives and nail scissors and they have been taken or told to go lock them in their car.I would buy the pre-sliced packaged apples. So much easier and it is a vacation afterall

A sturdy plastic knife will cut through an apple. Perhaps that would work for your friend. However I agree withthe PP who said cut them and put them in ziplocks or buy them already cut and prepared.

I agree with previous posters--pre-sliced is a good option. The restaurants aren't going to let a guest use a (sharp) utensil that they use to prepare food. Too many liability issues.

wrap the knife up and put it in your pocket when you go through security. The only things searched are bags, not your person.

Then once you get through, you can put the knife back in your backpack.

Wow, I thought the restaurant thing was a pretty good idea. I didn't mean to get a knife from the kitchen, I just meant they could grab a place setting. Seems like they'd either have those at the stand by the door, or a nearby table. Disney is always so eager to help, it didn't seem like it would be a big deal. And it really still doesn't. And that wouldn't be a liability issue, because that's what the patrons use.

I suggested cutting them up in the morning before we left, but she didn't want to because they get brown. And I think she'd probably rather buy whole apples than the pre-sliced. I'm sure they're cheaper.

She did mention plastic knives, so she might go with that idea. I just thought I would run it by you guys. I'll also mention the apple cutter to her. I think I might have one of those myself. :)

Thanks!

i would just buy the bought pre-sliced ones but if she wants to slice whole apples at the hotel, have her place them in a citrus drink such as sprite or in water with a little salt for a few minutes and they will not turn.

I would NOT try to take a knife into the parks. A plastic one will cut some types of apples but might be a little hard .

I wouldn't try bringing the knife, just what if...and then the worst part that could happen is they deny you entry..ok extreme but what if.....

The pre-sliced apples are a GREAT idea.

My daughter is NON a fan of the apples turning brown.
If you are going to cut them and worry about the kids making yucky faces at them turning brown here are the following suggestions to "preserve" the apples:

1) Get something called "Fruit Fresh", like +$1 at WalMart near the canning section. Just sprinkle it on the apples and they wont turn brown for hours. Works great on fruit salad

2) Lemon juice.

3) 7Up or Sprite.

4) Crushed up Chewable Vitamin C.

Also, another suggestion is the new applesauce in the squeezable pouches. They are great to travel with and the kids think they are "super cool".

Any of these work, as I do picnics often with fresh fruit. Good luck and have fun!
