ApplePay would be easier. Room charging (aka 'Touch to Pay') requires the entry of a PIN, and that PIN pad is hard to use (very small buttons). Sometimes is difficult to twist your arm into the correct position to get the Mickeys to line up correctly in order for the MagicBand to scan. In most cases, ApplePay is validated by a finger print that's stored in the iPhone. Depending on the merchant and/or purchase amount, the cashier might need to enter the last 4 (5 for AMEX) digits of the device account number that was generated when the CC was added to ApplePay.
