Applebee's Waitress Canned After Posting Pastor's Receipt

Again, I wont disagree but that is not the same as saying "she got that waitress fired". The waitress got herself fired because she just had to point out what a jerk the Pastor was on the internet. Just because one can do something, doesn't mean they can do it without consequences. She was acting as an employee of Applebees and good for them for not tolerating their employees posting that info on the internet.

Yeah, it is working out real well for them-check out their facebook page. Not many people agree with you.

They fired one waitress to benefit one customer and, in the process, really peeved off a bunch more.

I guess I am just not in the camp that the customer is always right...no matter how bad they treat an employee.

I don't think the waitress deserved to be fired-reprimanded, but not fired. Unless, she had some history of being a bad server.

There are two separate issues here, the Pastor is a lousy tipper and from the sounds of it, a nasty person. She is not right in this situation.
The waitress (who posted the receipt) used extremely poor judgment as an employee. Was firing her extreme, maybe but you know what I don't have any problems with companies that do that. I think we will be seeing a lot of policies put in place for this kind of thing. It seems the up and coming generation doesn't get the fact that not everything belongs on the internet, and posting something that 1) contains other's personal information and/or 2) that is the property of the company you work for (in a loose sense of the word) comes with consequences, and one of them may be termination.

I'm not sure how the Pastor treated the employee who was fired, did she actually interact with her and stiff her tip too?

But, how was the receipt personal information, with the exception of, possibly, her name? And, how personal is this information if we leave it on the table after we have left the restaurant? The credit card number was never shown, as I understand it.

Also, apparently, Appelbees never had a problem with it, until the pastor called and complained and INSISTED that the server be fired.

And, while you may be right, that not everything belongs on the Internet-we are living in a world where the laws and rules haven't caught up with technology. I am fully aware that when I leave my home, my expectation of privacy goes right out the window. Anyone can take a picture of me and post it on any kind of social media site and I can't say boo about it. That is the way it is these days. It doesn't really bother me much, though, because I don't treat people like crap and I don't have my butt hanging out my clothes-so, I figure, at most someone could post a picture of my occasional bouts of clumsiness (in which case, I would probably find that funny).

Is this normal behaviour in restaurants in the US ?

Don't people just want to eat their meals in peace along with their family, friends, alone without having some stranger trying to befriend them

Oh please. I have no need to be entertained by the waitstaff. I hate when they act line we are buddies!!!

I think it depends.

The only thing I ask of my server is they bring us our food/drinks in a timely manner and try not to spill anything on me (but, hey I am a klutz and I understand things happen ). My husband and I aren't too demanding. Especially now, if we eat out with our baby. We want to get our food fast and gulp it down before she gets restless and starts crying and disrupting the other customers (when she starts to cry or get restless, we leave ASAP). Suffice it to say, we don't eat as much as we used to...

But, there are people who want a really friendly server and want them to chat and "talk them up".

I think it depends on the people...

Not sure whereabouts in Europe you are but I would disagree with your comment.
In most of Europe there is either a service charge of 10% or more or there is an expectation of a tip in that amount. In the last year alone we have been in the UK, obviously, but also France, Spain, Gibraltar, Italy, Croatia, Greece and Turkey.
Very few places in Europe do not expect a tip. The only places that we have been to recently where tipping was not expected are Australia, China and Japan.

I respect your opinion and can i say i personally love the UK . I think what i was trying to convey by my comment was that in general there is not such a strong emphasis as in the USA on tipping and i dont feel, certainly for Italy and Spain as that is my personal knowledge, that you are contributing to making up the person's wage as in USA, as opposed to just tipping them because you enjoyed their service.

I am happy to accept your point of view, of course, and mean no disrespect to you. Greetings to the UK
