Applebee's Waitress Canned After Posting Pastor's Receipt

I hate the server was fired, but I'm not surprised. I know a girl who worked for Chili's who posted a picture on FB of a membership card that a lady had just drawn circles and scribbled lines on the name and phone number line. The lady had been angry she had to complete the membership card in order to be seated and just drew all over. The employee was fired for posting it on fb even though it was not legible. The restaurants are worried about liability of a lawsuit in these situations.

The server probably already has another job. When you work a low pay, thankless job like that, your pride is worth more than your job. I can only hope when the server was fired that she thought to say something awesome like, "I was looking for a job when I found this one." :thumbsup2

Yup. Last time I checked, God doesn't need to pay rent.

I used to say that all the time when I worked as a server! :rotfl2:

I worked at this place for a couple of years, and as soon as I got seniority and was able to make my own schedule, I crossed Sunday off the list! I never worked on Sunday, and it wasn't because I went to church, it was because that was the day I made the least money and worked the hardest.

I'd say, "Everyone must have just given their money to God. They should give it to me because God doesn't have to pay rent!" :lmao:

During financial sermons, our pastor used to get up and tell the congregation to properly tip their servers. He would tell them NOT to leave a religious tract. He also said that if someone felt they couldn't afford to leave a decent tip, then they shouldn't dine in a full service restaurant.

I really hope his message reached those who needed to hear it. My SIL who has been a server off and on for over 30 years still says that no one ever wants to work the Sunday "after Church" shifts. I can't say I blame them.

I don't believe she left cash as a tip. That's a good one...:rotfl2:

The server shouldn't have posted the receipt.

The pastor showed her true colors with the snide remark on the receipt and taking it the step further by calling the restaurant and demanding that others (plural) get fired.

I'd be finding another church. Pronto. That's embarassing to be associated with someone supposedly leading a flock and setting examples for their congregation to follow. Nope. No thanks.

I saw that "Pastor" on the news last night. What an ugly liar she is:faint:

She's sorry she left the note, embarrassed about calling the restaurant and she only asked for the 1 server to be fired. I could lie better than that when I was 10. If I were still in the liar business I'd offer her lessons.

Me thinks Ms Pastor is only in it for tax purposes.

For those of you who think what the server did wasn't a big deal, or wouldn't have been a big deal if she blurred the signature, how would you feel if you went to pay a cheque, and gave the server your card, and then on a trip to the restroom saw the server photographing the card, or your signature on the receipt. I'd be livid. Whether or not the photo was modified in someway before it was posted, it still exits on someone's phone or camera. People shouldn't be photographing other people's signatures.

Many people keep and shred their receipts. The CVS near me has a sign by the trashcan warning people not to throw out their receipts there as people have dug through the trash to find them and use them somehow.

On one hand, I don't really care that this happened to this particular "pastor", she had it coming. I agree 100% that she's a XXXXX On the other hand, I think a restaurant needs to make it very very clear to all of their employees that photographing anything personal belonging to a customer, especially private information is a firing offense.

I almost always leave cash and have never indicate it on the check. Why would I? My son waits tables at Olive Garden and he's only seen that written (or something similar a time or two.)

He makes great money in tips. Some people are cheap but most are "fair" and a few truly generous. He had a $50 tip on a $12.00 meal las week. Went running out to follow the gentleman figuring it was a mistake. But it was just a nice guy wanting to do something extra.

He would be fired if he broadcasted any info about a patron. You just don't do that.

Pastor was a jerk and I'd bring it up personally with them if it was ours.

The server should not have photographed the receipt; at the least, common sense dictates that. Since she did, she then should have removed the signature.

She shouldn't have been fired; a suspension, retraining and some time as a busser/dishwasher would have been fine.

The Pastor is just mad because she has been outed as a cheapskate.

One way to end this mess--pay the servers minimum wage or better; let tips count for what they are supposed to--a bonus.

/been there, done that
//made bank on tips; got a $100 tip on a $30 meal from Heath Ledger once. :woohoo:
///gotta be efficient, customer focused and smart to be a server; smart, because you know not to work prom night or Sundays.... :lmao:

One note people (and that 'pastor') need to understand here...

Yes, she gives God 10%. However, tithing is a spiritual discipline of obedience to God. It is not a fee pay to God for services rendered. To compare the two is disrespectful to the service and very bad theology in relation to God.

A good analogy would be believing that I give my wife half my income (actually, I give her all my income, she is the bill payer lol) in respect for services rendered to me. NO, she gets half because she is my partner and it is inherently already hers, not mine to just give. That is quite different than the money I give my waiter, my barber, and others who serve me from time to time.

As a Pastor myself, it is frustrating to see when my profession is defamed by another.

ITA and the best post on this thread!

I write cash for two reasons. One, to fill that spot up. It's easier for a "bad" server to add their own tip if you just write a zero. Two, because I've seen people walk by and take cash off other tables after the people leave and before the server hits it. Bussers, other patrons, cook on the way to the bathroom---that way the server knows it's there and to look for it.

i never understood why its a mandatory 18%. wouldn't that just make the waiter/waitress lazy since he/she knows he/she will get tipped no matter of the service? If i dont think the service is good, i dont want to pay that much tip... either that or having to complain to the manager... i would think that makes things worse...

Yup. I used to see that a lot as a server. Most servers don't see their "job" as building clientele, when in actuality that's what it is. I worked for TGIFridays in Raleigh years ago and I had regular customers every night of the week. I made GREAT money because I built a clientele.

The "pastor" was rude and frankly I have no sympathy.

Having said that, there is one aspect of this that I haven't seen posted yet. The server should not have posted the receipt for a variety of reasons including confidentiality and all of that. IN ADDITION the receipt is the property of Applebee's, so it's not hers to do with as she pleases. And Applebee's has every right to fire her. As a former GM, I would've fired her too.

I havent read all the posts so dont know if this has been posted but from what I read this 'pastor' runs her own 'church' in a rented storefront and there are about 15 members. It sounds more like she is tithing the 10% from her full time job to the 'church' for tax reasons...just makes me dislike her even more :rolleyes2

Those are same reasons I do it. Plus when we visit my parents in a different state we often go out to eat. Its not unusual for my parents to cover the check and then my we pick up the tip, or vice versa. Its easy enough to see we are 2 couple sharing a table even though we don't ask for separate bills.

And while I do find fault with the server who posted the check online, I find MORE fault with the so called "Pastor" for writing it. I doubt she has any actual Theology courses to back up her training.

Lol, most big churches started out as small churches. And a storefront isn't free. Snobbery about churches isn't any nicer than a cheap pastor or narc waiter.

Same here. I talked to a manager once when I saw a busboy take one of the two bills on a table and stick it in his pocket. I hope he was fired. :(

Sadly, the after church crowd has a horrible reputation. I was a hostess years ago at Shoneys and anyone would tell you that we had more rude, demanding, and low tipping people come in on Sundays and Wednesdays. Not only did they not tip even the average, but they were really rude. I guess they were seen at church so that's the important thing :confused3 The morning crowd was not bad, it was the afternoon crowds. It makes the rest of us who are Christians look terrible.
