Apple Watch and Disney Magic Bands

I agree eventually they will be more common. But it's not there yet. Even using your phone to pay is not common here. As much as I shop (which I admit is way too much) I've never seen a single person pay with their phone. Some areas are likely much faster to adapt the technology than others. But even in our area that are frequented by Millennials I'm not seeing phone payments used. Other than credit card payments on a phone. Those are very common.
Oh wow, that blows my mind lol. Since it has been a thing I have lived in Oahu Hawaii, Baltimore MD, and Orlando FL, and I feel like almost everyone uses Apple Pay or Samsung Pay. It must be big cities.
On another note, I LOVE Amazon same day delivery lol, we shop a lot too.

Jealous. We don't get that even with a huge Amazon distribution facility right here in town!

WHAT?!?!?!?! Thats crazy!!! Only place that didn't do Amazon Prime period I lived was Hawaii lol. Stuff took FOREVER to get there. But Baltimore and Orlando have same day shipping.

So what your saying is that Magic Bands only run at 2.4GHz but its impossible for Apple watch to run at the Same frequency to work as a Magic Band. That seems confusing to me, I may be reading what you're saying incorrectly, but what I'm getting is that the technology isn't there yet at that price, but somehow Disney is making it work, but Apple couldn't?....
It's not impossible, it's just not smart business for Apple (or Android, or anyone) to put a super high frequency RFID beacon into their products. It's currently used for toll collection (ez pass, etc) on highways and magic bands, and nothing else widespread that I'm aware of. The circuitry is bulky enough (look up a magic band dissection - all of that circuitry is for the long range RFID and they made it as small as possible), and there are other ways of accomplishing it's uses without putting it into smart devices. There's no real benefit to consumers to put it in to devices, it just costs extra money.

If Disney were to do it, they would have to use in-phone GPS and an internet connection rather than RFID. It can accomplish the same result of pinpointing location and exchanging information. The tech doesn't have to be the same, just the "experience." But it means reprogramming everything in the entire system to handle it. Now, they may be doing it for the future, but again, it's blue sky and just not important. Look again in 10 years.

The other thing that needs to be clear is that WiFi 2.4GHz and SHF RFID 2.4GHz are as different as a telephone and fax machine. Just because they use the same phone line does not mean if you pick up a phone you can understand what an incoming fax is. A WiFi enabled device only hears gobbledy gook from RFID.

Ahh ok, yea I see what you're saying now. Very valid points. Thank you!
