Apple TV, Why did I wait so long?

Where the Apple TV really shines, in my opinion, is the ability to use Airplay. Airplay let you mirror your iPad, iPhone, or Mac computer's screen to the Television. Thus you can watch any movie or app on the big screen wirelessly.

Thanks. I really can't think of anything that we use our iPhones or iPad for that we would want or need to display on the TV. We do stream stuff from Netflix a lot but we can already do that with the Wii.

Can you give any specific examples of apps that you like to use on your TV? Maybe there's something I'm not thinking of.

Aside from Photos and Videos, I only use a few.
At work:
Keynote for presentations
OneNote for white boarding/brainstorming


At home
Netflix
Youtube - for the podcast obviously
Planetary - a cool playlist visualization app that makes all of your music look like solar systems and galaxies and stuff. I mostly use Planetary because I don't otherwise have a stereo system in my front room
Penultimate - a "notebook" style app that I've used a couple of times for Pictionary on game night

I Love ours, and all we really do is watch Netflix, and YouTube. Oh, and I love having our pics on the tv!

So far sounds like nothing that we'd actually use it for. That was pretty much what I had figured when I looked into it before. Thanks. Saved me $100.

It does not, which would be nice since we have Prime -but it wasn't a deal breaker for me. Not sure if we will ever see Amazon on AppleTV since Amazon is developing their own device to compete with all the others.

I am disappointed that it does not stream Amazon, too. I'm wondering if the recently announced $35 Google device will do it. I get sound on my TV from my iPad using Apple TV with Amazon, but no video.

You need to do "mirroring" to get the image on you screen with the sound. The Chromecast works in a similar fashion for streaming from a Computer. No Mirroring from an ipad, yet.
