Apple iPhone 5s vs. Apple 5c

Could someone tell me the difference please? I'm thinking of switching from my droid to an iPhone, and besides the $100 price difference, what else do I need to know??

The 5S has a metal backside and the 5C has a colored, plastic backside.

Other than that, both phones are identical.

I think it depends on how well the 5c is made. I bet with a good case it should hold up as well as the metal, but time wiil tell.

The 5c is just like the 5, but with a colored shell. The 5s is the half model update (think 3G to 3GS or 4 to 4s) that has some additional features to the 5/5c including a better camera and finger print scan security.

If you just switching now I'd go for the 5s. Apple tends to "end of life" support for models rather quickly so there's no point in starting out with a half outdated model.

People on these boards seem to not get every new model that comes out so I'd say buy what's new now

I'm upgrading to the 5c on Black Friday. I hope I like it. I haven't ever had a smart phone, so I am excited. The only thing I am bummed over is that the Iphone 5 cases, aren't suppose to fit the 5c. Oh well at least I will have a pretty pink phone.

I have a 5S. I was a Blackberry user prior to the iPhone (since that what we have for work.) I LOVE my iPhone! No idea on the differences since DH purchased it for me.

You can get the 5c in 16gb or 32gb sizes, while the 5s is available in 16gb, 32gb, and 64gb. The 5c is basically an original 5 in a colored case, while the 5s has an upgraded camera, processor, and security.

Thanks everyone. What are your thoughts on insurance for the 5s? I can't upgrade until Monday so I have some time to decide I guess. I was going to get an otterbox commuter case and I treat my phone pretty well. I just seems silly to pay $130 for insurance and then $200 if I had to make a claim. I'd just use my old phone at that point I think.

I do not have insurance. But then I don't have it for my iPad or iPad Mini either. The iPad Mini is the only thing I have had to replace. dS6 dropped it once and scattered the screen and I had to pay for a replacement. And then it froze and Apple replaced it for free since it was still under warranty. For that price you could buy a new one.

I have a blue iPhone 5c 32 gb. I really like it a lot. DD has a pink iPhone 5c 16gb. I debated about getting the 5s due to the fingerprint sensor and since the camera is supposed to be a little better, but I really love the colorful look of the 5c. No regrets! And plus, the 5c is a little cheaper, so I didn't feel bad springing for the 32gb.

I don't have insurance on mine, but I would recommend either a Speck gemshell case or a Tech21 case. I love Tech21 cases- you can get those at Apple stores or through Apple's website. The Speck gemshell can probably be found at Best Buy or on Amazon. I'm careful enough that I don't really think I need insurance (watch my phone get ran over by a Mack truck today, lol). We have had iPhones for several years and have never had one shatter. The only problem we have ever had was when DH put his in the washing machine when he washed the sheets- he said later, "I thought I heard a weird thud when I put the sheets in the washing machine." Ugh.

However, we have had some cracked iPad screens....So I have a really strong iPad case on the old iPad that I let the kids use. And I try to enforce nobody else touching MY iPad Air.

One other thing----I really think Otterbox cases are a travesty, although I know they have millions of fans. Buying a beautiful, sleek, sexy iPhone-----and then turning it into a brick with an ugly Otterbox case. Sorry, I know I'll get flamed. I know they offer great protection----and my comments are only my opinion. But, there are beautiful cases that are very protective. Switcheasy also makes an awesome case; I have used them for my iPhone 3gs, iPhone 4s, and iPhone 5. They can be found at switcheasy.com. Switcheasy and Tech21 are my favorite case makers. Speck Gemshell is also nice and is transparent, so the colorful iPhone 5c shows through.

Instead of insurance, check out AppleCare. $99 one time and $50 to fix or replace your phone. It will cover it for 2 years. You have to add within 30 days, I think. It does not cover theft, though.

In my experience the plastic 5c housing/case is way less durable than the metal 5s.

I had an iphone 4 for 2.5 years that got tons of abuse from my toddler and my busy lifestyle - she and I dropped it all the time. It held up beautifully and of course had the metal casing.

Then I got a 5c and it was dropped once (and it had a basic case on it) and the entire phone came OUT of the plastic housing. It was not fixable.

So now I have a 5s and it's holding up great. And I do notice a difference in the camera which I didn't think I would.

I got a green 5C today too, and I will feel much better once I get a case for it! I was hoping to get something neat but it seems like the 5C doesnt have as much to choose from compared to the other non colored model. Anyone have any more case suggestions??

Honestly, with the iPhones, I don't bother with a case or insurance. It just doesn't seem worthwhile for the risk.

I just got a 5c this week and you' re right.... There are no cases for them . Googled them and it is slim pickings!!!! I need to get a case on it ASAP because I'm so worried something will happen to it.
