Apple Cider Doughnuts

Apple Cider donuts are pretty much unheard of in Florida.

Maybe it's because we dont grow apples.

They have apple cider donuts at my BJs Wholesale Club in Tampa. I saw them Friday (although I didn't buy any).

And, we have special apple trees that can grow here. A friend of mine has 2 :)

Does your friend sell fresh apple cider and homemade donuts?

Buying cider donuts from BJ's doesnt have the same cache as going to the orchard.

I would also recommend Kringle's Candles. Started by one of the Yankee Candle founders

As far as cider donuts, we went apple picking this weekend at Hamilton Orchards in New Salem, MA, and we got the donuts as they were being made. Cinnamon and sugar, just sugar, or plain.

Sooooo good. 0 calories, too!

Red Apple Farm in Athol, MA is also great. They sell their donuts at Mount Wachusett (along with other products). We stop into a mid-mountain shack while we ski and enjoy them near a wood stove.

Cider donuts + skiing = pure bliss

I've never liked the ones from the grocery stores, though. Perhaps that's because I was spoiled when I was in college and could take a weekend road trip to Fo'castle Farms. Betcha Kevin will agree that theirs are the best! =)

I haven't been there, but do like the ones from Delicious Orchards. Mmmm....

Whoa! I'm not debating that! In your previous post, you said that 1) apple cider donuts aren't available in FL, so I was trying to let you know where they were indeed available and 2) that we can't grow apples in FL, which we can.

So sensitive!!!!!

Cider donuts is serious bidness! ;)

Anyway, they taste really good after coming out of the fryer a few minutes earlier (and hot!)

We ate all of the ones we bought pretty quickly

I was joking.

I meant, because she has two trees, I'd be willing to drive wherever she may be if she sells cider and donuts. I thought that the humor was obvious. I apologize if it wasn't.

I promise you, I am not the least bit sensitive about cider donuts or cider itself.

Those are the best! We had a sad loss this weekend and very nice friends brought us those donuts...it's the little pleasures that get us through, isn't it?

I should try making some, too!

So sorry to hear about your loss.

I love their applesauce cake, too. It's a tradition for our family to go there every year after pumpkin picking. :)

Fo'Castle is a neat place. If you're ever in the Albany/Saratoga area, it's worth a stop.

I bet Delicious Orchards makes a good donut, too. I haven't been there myself, but have heard raves from a friend here at work.

lol - Actually, the OP's baked donut recipe looks mighty good, and then you went & mentioned applesauce cake, and...

Boy, I'm glad it's getting cool enough to bake again.

They were very yummy! I'm curious how they compare to the ones everyone else has mentioned.

Now I think I may need to hunt down an applesauce cake recipe!

I haven't gotten caught up on the podcast from the NE meet, but I saw here that you guys went to Atkins and it caught my attention.

I went to college in western Mass and we used to celebrate fall with a special day called "Mountain Day" where the college chose a beautiful fall day and cancelled all classes so we could go enjoy the mountains, etc. We used to drive over to Atkins and get those wonderful donuts and cider! It was a great tradition! Sadly for me, it's been a lot of years... I should declare tomorrow Mountain day here. Except I don't live anywhere near a mountain! :confused3;)

Yum, yum, yum.

Applemomma runs the family orchard here in NS. I think that I may get her on to these treasures.

This is killing me. I go to college in North Carolina, but I'm from the great state of South Jersey where I grew up on cider and cider donuts. I was googling today, because of the podcast, trying to find some, but it's looking like a no go until fall break. Nothing completes this great fall weather like a few apple cider donuts (or a dozen considering i'm a college kid)!
