thought this would be fun and helpful to lotsa people! basicaly what would you say is an appitizer but feeds like an actual meal? add what ya think! its a fun idea and can help us all see what portions may serve as a meal to us and save some cash. mine, is that in several places i feel the soup bowls are big enough to be a meal.

This is at CS but in DCA at the Taste Pilot's Grill their full throttle fries are a meal in themselves. They are $5.49.

Anything at Carnation Cafe is priced very nicely for a great deal of good comfort foods.

There are some appetizers at the restaurants in DTD that would big enough as a meal but cost less. Ex:
3 Sliders at House of Blues for - $10.00
Chicken Quesadillas at Rainforest Cafe - $8.99

i completely agree with much of the foods at carny cafe. also, what are sliders? LOL sorry im so dumbbbbb haha ive never been to house of blues, how is it?

Pommes Frites at Cafe Orleans worked as a meal for me! My DH got the Monte Cristo and I ordered the Pommes Frites. We barely made a dent in either dishes. He's a lightweight though!

Also, I ordered the cheese fries off the appetizer menu at ESPN zone. DH ordered a burger with a side salad instead of fries. He ate my fries, I ate the salad he ordered. Perfection!

House of Blues is nice. Food here for the most part is similar to TGIF, CHilli's w/ the exception of their Gospel Brunch on Sundays (that's Southern cooking) Sliders are mini burgers. HTH

Sliders are like mini hamburgers. I've also seen like "chicken sliders" which would be mini chicken sandwiches.

Chicken Nachos at Tortilla Joe's (!!!)

I think ESPN Zone is a great place to get those appetizers that are big enough for a meal. When we ate there last year, if I am not mistaken, the chicken strips/tenders I ordered were from the Appetizers section of the menu, and each strip was about the size of a small chicken breast, and there were maybe 6 to a basket. It was wonderful and filling, and the BBQ sauce I got with it was delicious.

Also, I have never ordered appetizers at Rainforest Cafe, but one time when we ate there someone in our group got an appetizer and I remember it being quite substantial - and big enough for a meal - as well.

Side question here, going solo next week, don't really plan on making any PS. If I get a table at say Cafe Oreleans, would it be not allowed or bad manners to just order Pommes Frites and a soup or maybe the beignets?

None of the entrees really seem that appealing to me and going solo, I don't think I could eat it all anyway. I would be happy to order the stuff to go, but I read that they don't allow take out service there.

DisCookie, I've ordered just that at CO before, a bowl of Gumbo for me and the Pomme Frites. No problems, but I did have others in my party.

I love those sliders but I can't eat them anymore....I found out how horribly bad the sodium content is and I'm honestly surprised they haven't killed me already! LOL Seriously high sodium content...

Last year I ordered the Pomme Frites, with a drink for that is all that I had really wished to have at the time. I had asked if it might be possible to place an order to go. It isn't, but that is OK, for I was able to make a p.s. at the time, and I only waited about 5 minutes until my name was called.
I asked the waitress if she did not mind if I ordered just that, and she said that I can order whatever I might like to, and that it is no problem at all.
I do love their Pommes Frites, it is a large portion which I could not finish. So I had what remained boxed up, and had asked for an additional container of the remoulade which is served with it. My waitress was really very nice and friendly, I just wish that I could remember her name. I normally do remember names, but unfortunately sometimes I forget them.
So don't feel like you have to order an entree, in addition to an appetizer, so as not to put off any of the wait staff. I made it a point to leave a larger tip, partly because I so very much liked my waitress and partly because I wanted to figure it as an entrée price. The last thing I was going to do was to leave a tiny tip. :hippie:

The Lava Nachos at Rain Forest Cafe are HUGE and really good. I've ordered them for a mean and hardly put a dent in them!

Speaking of nachos, the lobster nachos at the Cove Bar (above Ariel's Grotto) are amazing.....DBF and I love to go there on a hot day and have a drink and share some nachos. :)
Also, more nachos, the crab nachos at Joe's Crab Shack (not walkable) are sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo good......DBF loves Joe's steam pots, he gets a steam pot, I get the nachos and I can't ever finish them....they are sooooooo good and huge!!!
