We were debating this as well and decided not to do the DDP for our next trip, BUT then we started looking at all the yummy restaurants there are, as well as character meals for the kids. Then we thought to ourselves that in addition to dinner, we'll still have to have some sort of breakfast and lunch, and let's not forget a snack here and there (love those Dole Whips!). So after doing some calculations it was really a no brainer for us that we would probably get the DDP. For us, it's a big cost savings. Plus, it beats eating dinner at the food court or burger place every night! So we now have ADR's at places like Le Cellier, Boma, Ohana, Chef Mickey's, etc. But to each their own. I actually had to sit down and look at allears menus for prices and it was a total no brainer.
Eliminating the kids "appetizer" (which isn't usually brought before the main course most of the time) would undermine the balanced meals Disney has been advertising. The appetizers for kids aren't real appetizers, except in places that offer soup or salad as options. They're more like a side dish, and without the veggies & dip to go with the mac & cheese, Disney couldn't boast healthy, balanced kids' meals.
I think I may have to do that too. Last time we went we spent almost the whole $40/day on dinner alone! Just because the buffets are almost $30 each, and then everything else is around $15, so I guess you are saving money. I just made my ADRs so now I can go add it all up to see if we will save! Thanks.
I don't think the kids meals really include an "appetizer." Like the above poster, I think it's just to make sure they can say they're serving the kids some veggies.
Yes, the basic plan for adults will eliminate the appetizer option from table service meals in 2008. The deluxe plan will still include appetizers. Neither plan will include gratuities.
This is interesting. We're not going until 2009, so it may change. But the one appy I really don't want to give up is the soup at LeCellier. Sooo, if both my kids get an appetizer and both order the soup (They tried it last time, didn't like it, enjoyed the bread instead), then I could just eat their 2 child-sized portions. Hmmm... Ok, that's cheap, LOL! I'll just order my own!
We are going to try it out January 26-31. I debated for days and read alot and I believe I can come out ahead. It will allow us to eat at places we would not of eaten at if not on the plan. It will be me and the wife only and we are doing it somewhat up rite. First time staying at Disney after 11 trips. Flying for 140.00 pp roundtrip and free upgraded tickets to hopper/ waterpark and ect. I have been able to get all restaurants we want besides Le Cellier and I will keep trying unil we leave. I just the ages 3-9?????????? what a change??????????
eat what you need,or what you want.......if you order a appetiser and a desert in the real world, then the plans for you. if not you will not save money

From allears.net, there are a few menus that price the appetizer, entree, and dessert for kids separately. I found Jiko's children's menu to be this way, and I'm sure that there are others. Maybe the DDP states appetizer for children to cover these menus? Who knows.
