We are going to an oyster roast Thanksgiving morning from around 10:30 - noon. The family having it purchases all the oysters. I want to bring an appetizer for those that do not like to eat oysters.

Any suggestions? A bit of a challenge since it's so early in the day and on Thanksgiving.

Thanks!

You could do a nice crackers, cheese and fruit platter.

Or what about pumpkin dip served with graham crackers sticks and sliced apples?

Pumpkin Dip

3/4 cup (6 ounces) 1/3 less-fat cream cheese
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup canned pumpkin
2 teaspoons maple syrup
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
24 apple slices

Place the first 3 ingredients in a medium bowl; beat with a mixer at medium speed until well blended. Add syrup and cinnamon, and beat until smooth. Cover dip and chill 30 minutes. Serve with apples.
Yield: 12 servings (serving size: 2 tablespoons dip and 2 apple slices)

* This dip is also good with Honey Graham Sticks.

The pumpkin dip sounds good. I was thinking a Buffalo Chicken Wing Dip. You can make it in your crock pot (any recipe that you see calls for the oven but you can make it a crock pot and it's just as amazing), and in the crock pot it'll stay warm as long as you need it to. This is recipe I use:

• 1 1/2 lbs chicken breasts, cooked and shredded
• 1 (12 ounce) bottle hot sauce (use whole bottle or just half, if desired)
• 2 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese, softened
• 1 (16 ounce) bottle bleu cheese salad dressing (or can use ranch or 8 oz blue cheese and ranch)
• 2/3 cup chopped celery
• 3 cups shredded cheddar cheese or monterey jack and cheddar cheese blend
• Chips or crackers to dip

Directions

Bake chicken – 350 for 1.15min

1. Preaheat oven top 350.
2. In a large bowl, mix shredded chicken, celery and cheese.
3. In a saucepan over med-low heat, combine cream cheese and salad dressing and stir until smooth. Stir in bottle of hot sauce ( don't have to use entire bottle if you want it milder). Pour heated mixture into bowl with chicken mixture. Stir to mix well.
4. Pour everything into Crockpot, and heat high for 2 or so hours then turn down the heat and serve!

OR

4. Pour into a 13" x 9" baking pan. Bake uncovered for 40 minutes or until bubbly----make sure top doesn't get browned. Let stand for 10 minutes.

Serve warm OR cold-----tastes best warm--- with celery or other veggies, taco chips and crackers.

has the hotess asked you to bring additional items? Had to ask :) Had a dinner and my brothers GF brought a dish that DID NOT complement what I was serving.

I don't eat oysters so good for you thinking of folks like me :)

I buy those premade phyllo dough tart cups- grind/smash a few ginger snap cookies and press into the bottom, add a small slice of Brie cheese and a dollop of apricot jelly on top. Place in a 375 oven for 10-15 minutes until cheese softens and jelly is warm.
Always a hit and super easy and yummy

thanks everyone. The link to the one site is overwhelming :)

I told the family having the party I wanted to bring something and she suggested an appetizer. I don't eat oysters myself so want something I will like too :)

Another suggestion is to bring a variety of quick breads - pumpkin, banana, cranberry-orange. Or what about a variety of bagels & cream cheese?

A friend of mine made this last year. It was wonderful, I couldn't stay out of it.

Did you strongly instruct guests not to bring anything? If not, it seems ungracious that you didn't appreciate the contribution. If it was truly a "miss" then it would just go uneaten and possibly hurt the GF's feelings, but at least she tried.

We attend one event every year where the hosts are emphatic that they do not want food contributions. Even with very specific wordage on the invitations, they always get a few things brought in. People just don't like to come empty handed. I understand that.

Our family loves Breakfast Casserole made wit eggs, bread, milk, cheese, and sausage (optional onion and mushrooms). A nice warm dish that travels well. Also the kids will eat it

That early in the day, I'd be inclined to go with more brunch-y things: bagels and cream cheese, muffins, fruit salad, mini quiches, something like that.

This sounds amazing! I may borrow this for our siblings Thanksgiving next weekend :)

Baked Brie:

Easy and awesome for a brunch type set up

Take a round of brie (you leave the white rind on) and spread seedless raspberry jam across the top. Wrap that with a pack of croissant dough (like pillsbury) with the seams pressed together. Toss a handful of brown sugar on top. Bake at 350 for 30min. Let cool for about 10min before serving.

I served mine with the Breton wheat crackers.

Just served this for a party of twenty somethings this weekend...people kept saying, "what IS this stuff? It's really good!"
