Can you substitute a dessert for an appetizer or a side salad on the regular dining plan at a TS restaurant? We have 2 people on the dining plan so we will have 2 TS credits available for each TS meal. Thanks!:)

No, the only slight option is that at some signatures the cheese board is on both menus and allowed- CG allowed this.

This topic comes up a lot and the answer is almost always No, sorry.

I didn't think so, but thought I would ask anyways. If I want an appatizer, ill just pay for it. Thanks!

I would soooo love to have an appetizer instead of dessert...lord knows I could use a salad rather than dessert!:lmao:

me too... I'm on a diet until my vacation & going off of it for the vacation, but I very rarely eat a dessert but I am looking forward to the creme brulee:wizard:

And that is why we almost always find paying OOP to be a better deal for us than ANY dining plan (unless it's free and even then we have to do the math with a room discount).

Does anyone know the rationale behind this? Why not offer the choice of appetizer OR dessert on the dining plan (but not both)? I am assuming that appetizers cost more for the restaurants to prepare than desserts, is that it? Although I question if that is true for simple salads as an appetizer.

Two lines of rationale come up frequently when this question is asked. It could be that Disney's reasoning is a bit of both.

Why not allow substitutions?

If substitutions were allowed many groups would choose to share an appetizer and share a dessert. Appetizers can add about 15-20 minutes to the seating time of a table. By eliminating appetizers the restaurants are usually turning tables over faster. In instances that a party opts to purchase an appetizer and pay OOP, then Disney is generating more revenue for the 'tied up' table.

The other line of reasoning is that desserts are generally alot less expensive so it's also a revenue generating move on Disney's part.
