Appetizer included for kids TS?

The 2008 DDP says appetizers are included for kids 3-9.

Are there single serving appetizers for kids?

I'm sorry, but appetizers aren't included for anybody for the 2008 plan. That's what everybody's been in an uproad about - no appetizers and no tips included.

if you look at the children's menus (TS), theirs are 3 courses, and yes, still come with an "appetizer". For example, looking at some of the menus I printed out for our upcoming trip:

Sci-Fi: child's appetizer-- tomato soup, or garden salad

Coral Reef: choice of celery/carrot sticks or Soup of the Day

Kona Cafe: Chicken Noodle Soup or garden salad

The DDP does specify that children must order from the children's menu, and all of the kids meals have a "pick one from each category" for this price, and that includes an appetizer.

So unless all of the restaurants change their menus, it is included at this time,

The appetizers on the kids menu are usually veggie sticks with dip, soup, or a house salad. Nothing especially remarkable, but it generally satisfies the veggie requirement of the "balanced meal" goals that Disney has set. That's why kids still get appetizers even though they've been cut for adults - without the apps, there'd be no claiming that the hot dog or mac & cheese kids meal is healthy!

Just to make sure more misinformation is not spread, this is wrong. The children's appetizer is included on the 2008 Dining Plan.

I noticed that too, and I think it's because of the Pick and Choose option for kids: they get to choose an appetizer, entree and dessert. Unless they want to print up new menus and signs, and I can't see how they had any other choice but to include an appetizer for kids.

The whole "pick and choose" menu came directly from the previous DDP. People were choosing $13 adult appys for their kids because there was no child's appetizer on the menu. Disney's solution? Change the kids menu to include appetizers. My guess is that the "pick and choose" menu will go by the wayside now that the plan has changed to exclude appetizers.

Hmmm - we've eaten at pretty much every restaurant on site (a few more signatures to go) and almost all have a child's appetizer, so we've always had to choose from the kids' menu. Maybe people were choosing adult appetizers when the plan first started - we didn't try it until 2006, but in 2007, every restaurant we ate at had a kids' appetizer, whether it was separate, or part of the Pick and Choose, so I'm not sure that they will get rid of that option, personally. If they do, then there may not be enough food categories covered under their new, healthy eating guidelines.

It will be interesting to see what happens as we don't care for some of the kids' menus ourselves, Tiger:thumbsup2

Kid's appetizers were probably not on your "radar" until you bought the DDP in 2007.

Here are a couple old threads from 2006:

I vividly remember when they started the Pick and Choose menu and how upset some people were.

We bought the DP for 1st time in July '06 and I vaguely remember a few restaurants not having a kids' appetizer and they then showed us our choices from the adult menu - we've never been able to choose a $13.00 appetizer, and we've eaten everywhere.

Interesting reading on those threads - thanks for the links, Tiger :)

I guess they just bring the kids appetizers with the regular meal now if you don't order adult appetizers. I would prefer they actually serve some fruits/veggies with the pick one meals rather than the soup/salad/ carrot sticks anyway. Maybe a new kids menu will appear? You either get the preplated "healthy" meal which my kids mostly didn't want or the pick ones that seem to me as less healthy than before the new menus when at least kids got some fruit salad with their nuggets or pasta.
